Allaire for McDowell Indian Derby

Fourteen horses, including seven fillies,  will face the starter on Sunday, February 4 for this year's running of the prestigious McDowell’s Indian Derby, the Blue Riband of Indian horse racing, to be held at Mahalaxmi racecourse. Thanks to the unstinted support of McDowell, the flagship company of the UB Group, the 59th version of the Derby will be worth 45.5 lakh rupees for the winner. A unique gem-studded gold trophy valued at Rs. 75,000 is being offered by McDowell to the winner of this prestigious race and the contribution to the stake money by the sponsors is Rs 32 lakh. Storm Again uncontrollable

Such was the impression of her victory in the Kingfisher Indian Oaks that Allaire was the overwhelming favourite to win the mother of all battles at the Mahalaxmi turf: The McDowell Indian Derby. She was the shortest-priced Indian Derby runner in the last decade. But she failed to live up to the expectations of her admirers.

Storm Again helps Mallya break the jinx

Storm Again stormed home in spectacular fashion to win the McDowell Indian Derby on Sunday. While Pesi Shroff inflated his Derby tally to an unassailable seven, the win also enabled owner Dr Vijay Mallya achieve a new landmark in the history of the Indian Derby. Hitherto no other owner had won more than four Indian Derbys.
