Dubai World Cup Winner Victoire Pisa Retired

    Victoire Pisa, winner of the 2011 Dubai World Cup Sponsored by Emirates Airline (UAE-I), has been retired from racing to stand at stud at Teruya Yoshida’s Shadai Farm in Japan, according to the Racing Post. The 4-year-old grandson of deceased Shadai stallion Sunday Silence was bred by Shadai.

The first Japanese horse to win the $10 million Dubai World Cup, the world's richest race, Victoire Pisa captured the 1 1/4-mile event for owner Yoshimi Ichikawa over Japanese-bred Transcend to earn $6 million. The triumph came shortly after Japan suffered a devastating earthquake and tsunami.

Victoire Pisa was Japan’s champion 3-year-old male in 2010. He won that year’s Satsuki Sho (Jpn-I, Japanese Two Thousand Guineas) and the Arima Kinen Grand Prix (Jpn-I), and was second in the Tokyo Yushun (Jpn-I, Japanese Derby) and third in the Japan Cup (Jpn-I).

Victoire Pisa raced twice more after the Dubai World Cup, finishing unplaced in both the Japan Cup and the Dec. 25 Arima Kinen Grand Prix. He was retired with eight wins from 15 starts and earnings of $12,891,734.
By Japanese champion Neo Universe, Victoire Pisa is out of English and Irish champion Whitewater Affair (by Machiavellian). A retirement ceremony will be held for Victoire Pisa Jan. 15.
