The Art of Selecting in Maiden Races
A maiden race is a one which all the runners have not had a single win and on level weight gender wise. Usually a filly will have 11/2 kgs lesser than a colt will have to carry.
Most of them would not play a maiden race for the danger of unknown animals present and information available is also less. The rule to back or avoid betting maiden race is as follows. If you find some stuff in this article you can follow or else simply skip all maiden races is my suggestion.
Do not back a first timer becoming odds on favorite.
Do not back any horse if the field is having more than two first timers. Any unknown animal can come and pip your choice at post.
Do not back a first timer running in mile races and beyond.
If the first timer shines in the workouts and neglected in the betting ring a small venture is advisable though you need not back as a one horse race.
Do not back a first timer if his or her workout is more than 12 days ago.
Do not back a first timer with an inexperienced jockey on saddle.
After all the elimination process you have made as above if there is only one horse left out in the field you can back strongly.
