Shaaranga registered an emphatic victory on debut in the Haryana Meadows Stud Cup, the main event of the Delhi races on Wednesday. Trainer Magan Singh and jockey Pawan Sharma shared a brace each.
Magan Singh's Shaaranga, who had failed to impress in his last trial, made all the calculations wrong by catching up the leader Red Rose near the 900m marker. As soon as the duo entered the homestretch, the son of Rebuttal and Secret Path took command to steal the show. The full younger brother of Young Achiever (Bangalore) has the capability to maintain the form. Coming from the fifth position, Rios Girl made a late attempt to collar Shaaranga and finished impressive second. The daughter of Gaswar and Midnight Escape should soon come out of the maiden status. The heavily backed Red Rose, who looked gross in the paddock, beat Master Source for the third position. The filly of Duja and Bellagio should soon raise a winning gallop.
K Ali Khan-trained English Power shed her maiden status in a sensational manner in the Janpath Plate over the mile which was the opening event of the day. The daughter of Itaquere Power and English Daughter (who was also a miler) was close third till the distance post and was looking all set to play the second fiddle. But, suddenly, the then leader Steel Force started huffing and puffing in the last ten yards and that made all the difference as English Power powered away by getting three-parts-of-a length better. Steel Force should make amends. Ho Chi once again failed to live upto expectations finishing third.
Both the division of the Republic Day cup witnessed a close finish. In the upper division of the cup saw Dream Debut prevailing over Green Ribbon by a nostril.
The former was, later, found to have its blood vessel burst. Master Right, who finished fourth behind El Salvador, lodged an objection against him and the runner-Up as well for hampering his way in the last furlong but the stewards turned it down.
Ajaya Shrama, younger brother of the Hyderabad-based trainer Anupam Shrama saddled his first winner in the lower division of the event through Movie Queen who was available at nourishing odds. The aged daughter of Tirol - Kiss And Tell necked Air Forse One out at the finish. Bacha Quero and Trusted man, who finished third and fourth respectively, should return to the winning ways. The run of Ashwa Harbir and Nizbati Queen are best forgotten as the runners were not allowed to settle down at any stage, particularly the latter.
Master Belief, who ran fifth in the North India Derby, justified the top billing in the senior division of the India gate Plate. The bay filly of Juniper and Compassion should complete an encore. Subroos pipped Hot And Classic, who had a class skip running directly to class two after winning in class four. The latter, who had three wins to her credit, should be able to meet with success.
The junior division of the plate had three way finish in which the hot favourite Miss Burgeon just managed to hold the stablemate Red Cat and Spot Hit off. A Khan's chrage Perfect Affect ended his winning drought by making every post a winning one in the concluding event, Vijay Chowk Plate. Zabardast, who was the market mover and has the stamina to stay, found the trip too short and finished second over 1,100m. But jockey Pawan Sharma failed to weigh-in and after holding a stewards enquiry, the authorities disqualified the horse and promoted the other horses who finished behind him.
