Believe You Can
Rosie Napravnik got her name written in gold when she emerged as the first lady rider to win the celebrated Kentucky Oaks, when she piloted Proud Citizen’s Believe You Can to victory at Churchil Downs on Friday. "It`s unbelievable," she said, "I cannot tell you what it feels like to have your dreams coming true.”
Rosie had her filly, Believe You Can, settle behind Broadway’s Alibi when the race finally started off, after a delay due to threat of a thunderstorm. The two of them travelled prominently in front and Believe You Can moved alongside, approaching the final turn and after a stern encounter proved superior by three parts of a length at the finish. The favourite Grace Hall failed to throw a serious challenge and finished third.
It was the second success for the Owner/Breeder Bereton Jones and trainer Larry Jones in the Oaks, after Proud Spell notched it in the year 2008. "She gave us that ‘wow` factor when she worked the other day," said Larry Jones. "We just got another ‘wow` this afternoon."
