Camelot winner of The G1 Qipco 2000 Guineas

Aidan O’Brien trained Camelot emerged victorious in the G1 Qipco 2000Guineas Stakes at Newmarket, in an absorbing finish. Jockey Joseph O’Brien rode the Montjeu colt to a nicety, to prevail over Oliver Peslier ridden French Fifteen in a finish that had the stands spellbound.

Joseph had the 15-8 favourite Camelot towards the tail for over half the mile trip and made headway inside the last 3 furlongs. French Fifteen too staked claim 1f out but Camelot streaked through horses in front and staved off French Fifteen’s challenge.

"He has a lot of class and speed and I was always happy," commented Joseph O'Brien after winning his first English Classic winner. "He was nice and relaxed and, although I didn't get the best of runs through and was very far back, I always felt like I was getting there. He might have got a bit tired in the last 100 yards, but it was his first start of the season, and he will be a lot better going further."

"We always thought he was a bit special," said Aidan O'Brien. "The lads will speak about his next target but looking at him you would think the Derby would suit him."
