Homecoming Queen (Ryan Moore Up), winner of The Qipco 1000 Guineas

Homecoming Queen surprised one and all when she overwhelmed her rivals in the G1 Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on Sunday afternoon. The victory gave trainer Aidan O’Brien an amazing Guineas double during the weekend, having wrapped up the 2000 through Camelot a day earlier. Stable companion Maybe was the race favourite but Homecoming Queen routed her rivals by a massive nine lengths, which is the second biggest winning margin in the history of the race, after Mayonaise recorded a 20 lengths victory in the year 1859.

There was a delay of almost half an hour in the start of the race after Gray Pearl got trapped in the gates and had to be put to sleep. When the field was finally dispatched, the 25-1 shot Homecoming Queen took to the front instantly. The daughter of Roman Emperor kept up the tempo and stretched further to finally romp home by a massive margin. Starscope was the best of the beaten brigade, finishing second, a length ahead of Maybe.

Winning jockey Ryan Moore said. "I thought I was going a stride too quick really, but she just kept going. She obviously enjoys going like that and although there is not much of her, she tries very hard and is very tough."

"She's a hardy, tough filly who improved a ton from her first race to her second this season”, said Aidan O’Brien,” she's got a great pedigree as a sister to Dylan Thomas who progressed and progressed.”
