Galileo’s Was held the Ballydoyle flag high on Friday, winning the G1 Investec Oaks at Epsom Downs. The 20-1 shot Was, ridden by Seamus Hafferman relished the moderate pace and settled in third early. As the field turned for home with a quarter mile in balance, Was slipped in along the rails to take the lead and held steady till the finish. Shirocco Star and the 11-4 favourite The Fugue made rapid progress in the last furlong but failed to collar Was.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien who led in his 200th Group 1 race said,” She’s a very good-looking filly with a great pedigree. Anything is possible with these well-bred fillies by Galileo and she came on lovely from her first run. Seamus gave her a lovely ride and he's a great fellow, a world-class jockey and he knows all these horses inside out--nobody deserves it more."
