The 17th day of the Delhi meeting turned out to be a memorable day for the trainer Aleem Khan, who not only saddled his 1000th win but also completed a quadruple through Real Scotch,Trinity, Pixie Lass and Hope Spring's, in a card of six.
Pixie Lass ran true to her pedigree in the upper division of the Central Reserve Police Force Cup. The daughter of Conqering Hero and Netweight had the early training in the western India before being deported to Delhi as she had developed a gate problem. A number of barrier-trials made all the difference while scoring easily over the sprinters distance. A regular apprentice jockey Harkesh Kumar kept the rank-outsider filly up with the pace till the leader Elegant Fashion started running out of steam just before the final furlong. The sister of Heavy Weight (winner of the Colts Trial Stakes on debut), Real Sexy (1000 Guineas winner) and Patricia (a class one runner), should soon complete an encore. Incidentally, she provided her partner his first win. The favourite Confidential Lady, from the same stable, was unable to deliver her best but to hold on to the runner-up berth.
The daughter of Alanis by Ansbach, Zip, came out of maiden status in the opener. Sitting second behind Orange Lily, a full sister of Candavega, took up charge at 300 m. The small stature filly should follow the path of her mother, who was the consistent Class 2 performer over all the distances. Choice Own, the lone matured runner in the field of five, was alerted to the task very late to run second ahead of fast finishing Bakhtawar. An extra furlong can help the latter, who drifted out badly in the straight, to prove his merit.
Real Scotch, who won the Panipat Plate, was the 998th win for the trainer Aleem Khan. A failed favourite on many occasions during the previous season made no mistake under the guidance of jockey Rajinder, while making every post a winning one over the 1,400 metres. Super Trooper, who was hanging in badly in the straight, held off the latecomers - Fast Dose and Inspector Eagle for the second spot. For the track followers, the victory of Real Scotch was as easy as was with Zip because the duo, earlier, had matched the strides with the in-form Celestial Fairy.
Following the footsteps of Real Scotch, Trinity helped her coach to inch closer to the 1000 mark. The filly proved to be too good in a start-to-finish campaign in the National Research Centre On Equines Cup by stopping the watch at 0.59.48 seconds over five furlong. She should look forward to complete a hat-trick in the next venture over the shorter trip. Striving Higher was the best among the rest by heading out late galloper Exlated, who pipped Tokaido identically for the minor placings. A neck further away was Lopara, for whom the distance was too short.
M Ahsan-trained Swing Lucky registered a stunning victory in the lower division of Central Reserve Police Force Cup. Running in the hind group, she was still badly placed till the head turned for the homestretch. A young apprentice Sameer Khan rode the mare confidently to turn the table over the favourite Protection inside the distance post. Protection, who received a severe interference soon after the jump, otherwise would have emerged victorious. San Juan, who had a forward run till 100 m and before finishing close third, should be followed. Water Wave, who finished fourth, has to be noted for the longer trip. However, the most promising run was of Private Eye, who was held on to fifth place from the bend.
Hope Spring's bounced back to his glory by emerging victorious in the Class I's Hisar Plate. The gelding (with Rajinder up in the saddle), who played the second fiddle in the Dedication's Champion Sprinters Cup, had the handicap advantage which saw him raising a victory gallop against the latter. Taurian, a third place holder behind the duo in the previous outing, headed out Dedication by carrying five kilos less than the actual scale under the apprentice handler. A massive weight of 62 kilograms was the main cause of defeat for Dedication.
