In a fast run
race, Altimara was taken on a start to finish mission by jockey
Srinath and the Razeen progeny led till the final 250 metres
before being passed by the eventual winner. Jockey Rajinder did
well to settle the son of Conquering Hero in the second position
and it enabled him to take The Proletarian to the front with the
minimum amount of fuss. This held him in good stead as Anagram
and Al Dente finished on powerfully. The five-year old mare Al
Dente who is a full sister to Anagram should be hard to down
next time out unless she runs in the Maharaja’s Cup where the
extended trip could go against her. Appeaser, who came up with a
flourish from the rear, ran out of steam when he appeared to be
shaping to pose a stiff challenge to the front-runners.
Trainer Imtiaz
Sait has done well to exploit the potential of The Proletarian
to the fullest with whom he has already picked up two races at
this center. ``The Proletarian will next race in the Maharaja’s
Cup where his effectiveness may perhaps been dented by the 2200
metres trip,’’ said the trainer. Delhi champion jockey
Rajinder, who is riding for the first time at this center, has
thus far done nothing wrong.
By the look of
things, both the divisions of the Commanche Plate appeared
headed towards Hyderabad as the outstation challengers had the
form to back to their credentials. However, first-timer Si
Senora spoiled such an eventuality by winning the upper division
in a close duel over lesser-fancied Royal Sovereign, with
strongly backed Stamford finishing a tame third.
The lower
division of the Commanche Plate went the way of Leo D’Silva
trained Elegant Monarch who exploited the run benefit to the
fullest. Satish Narredu had the Sizzling Melody progeny in front
from the word `go’ even as first timer Claudius, who looked
gross, struggled to find foot. The persevering efforts of Shroff
ensured that the son of Broto covered up the leeway considerably
in the run in for home. Mack The Knife was a leisurely third.
Daiimio could well have been the
first victim of Maneka Gandhi’s mandate of only eight whips as
the Procida progeny who runs best when under the whip was
gaining ground on the front-runners rapidly when Warren Singh
had to stop the use of the whip as he had in fact, used one more
than what was mandated! There was a quiet touch on Batliwala
trained Skeena who came up wit a flourishing run to get the
better of the front-running Predominate, to win with a measure
of comfort. Daiimio could well make amends next time out with
little more aggression from the jockey minus the whip.
Zareer Darashah
trained Amazon Gold had let down as a favourite last time out
but the Rebounding Thrill progeny made ample amends, winning the
Bergamo Plate (Div II) over 1400 metres long way from home.
Danzor was a suggestive second and the Abdullah trainee should
be a better proposition when he gets a jockey of credentials.
Super Green was third with Smart Challenger not making any
impression. The upper division of the race went the way of
Deshmukh trained Mohican Chief who made good the advantage of
draw number one. By the time, fancied Anaheim could move up from
the outside draw to take up a striking position, Mohican Chief
had established a useful lead without having to expend his
energies. Jockey Srinath had little difficulty in driving out
the Ilheus progeny to a resolute win over Anaheim.
Darashah had a
good priced winner through Gullane who brought off an upset in
the Maroof Farah Memorial Plate. The Tiajuana progeny had been
plagued by ulcerations in the mouth, which had forced the
trainer to give a longish break, as it was difficult to put the
bit under such circumstances. Now that he had fully recovered
from these botherations, Gullane on whom jockey Appu saved
ground by bringing him along the rails, held on gamely from a
late-finishing Augill Castle. Trivia was third ahead of the
front-running Step In Time whose reserves of energies dried out
inside the final 100 metres. Jockey Suresh, who had replaced the
indisposed Prakash on Celestial Gold, came a cropper as the
got-abroad colt stumbled and fell around the 700-metre marker.
Favourite Sher Khan was never in the hunt at any stage of the
race. Trainer Rashid
Byramji who was back from his first ever suspension for breach
of medication rules, led in a winner through long shot Magic
Mantra who made every post a winning one. The Tecorno progeny
swept the others off their feet and had sewn up the race well
before the final furlong. Jockey Srinath had to wade his way on
fancied Flaming Tower and by the time the Gold Discovery progeny
came through, the front-runner had established a winning lead.
Flaming Tower edged past Majestic Emperor in his last stride to
get the runner-up spot.
The notable
feature of the day was the fact that trainer Ganapathy who did
not have the services of jockey Prakash, ended with a blank, a
rare feature these days.
