With Donald Netto deciding to go with an out-of-form Romancero instead of Rolland Garros, the stage was left for Timeline and Scott. And these two graced the tail while Top Quark and the other two stayed in front. BV Krishnan settled Timeline well and didn’t bother to get into the act until the last furlong. Although he made his move on the bend, there was absolutely no inkling of the
powerful run he unleashed in the final furlong. So comfortable it was in the end that Krishnan not only left the reins loose but even had the time to pat Timeline, lauding the effort.
Leo gave Rutherford Alford a similar win on Ice Castle who completed a hat-trick of wins and enhanced his reputation as a well-endowed sprinter. She scored an ice-cool win in the supporting event of the day, Lady Grace Plate. In the process, Ice Castle settled the
pretensions of Burjo Fire who had earned quite a reputation with two back-to-back wins.
When Burjo Fire went forward as in his last two starts, one expected that another win for him was perhaps on the cards. But with Ice Castle, who is known to come from behind, positioned not far behind by Rutherford, she was expected to swoop down on the front-runner anytime. But it was another purple which appeared on the scene when, at the 300-metre mark, Maid Of The Mist it shaped like a winner. However, Ice Castle proved that he is simply too good for the bunch with a brilliant finish. In a trice, he went four-five lengths clear before easing up to win by 2-1/2 lengths.
Starry Shine and Treasure Gift should follow Ice Castle to the victory podium in their next starts. Burjo Fire may have gone down but he has still a couple of wins left in him before he packs his bags for the season.
As expected Adrian (Glory Of Dancer – Arlington Eight) demonstrated his staying prowess when he tackled the grueling 2200 metres in the Treasure Leaf Plate with the ease of a seasoned campaigner. Totally unperturbed by Ryan Marshall’s ploy to unsettle the pace of the field and exploit the situation to Turbanator’s advantage, SN Chavan rode Adrian well off the pace.
As if to put the race beyond the rest, Turbanator went ahead by over a distance in the back straight. Divine Perfection blew up while trying to catch up with him on the bend, even as Chavan gradually worked Adrian up the field. With fluid movements, Adrian took over the
running at the 350-metre mark and was all by himself in the final furlong. Danzero took the second prize that would now enable him to prepare for a race towards the end of the season.
Although trainer KRK Raju has pocketed a majority of the races earmarked for youngsters, the general opinion was that none of them have the class to repeat. The battle-scarred veteran took the first opportunity to prove his detractors wrong by saddling Classic Ten to an impressive win in the Silky Baby Plate. The nine-horse field had seven winners including Dr MAM Ramaswamy’s Brown Star and Imdad Jah’s Great Society who are being talked of very
highly.
What more, Royal Hawk made it a sweet 1-2 for the trainer by finishing a good second. Brown Star was beaten to fourth place by his cornmate One More Time, while Great Society disappeared without a trace.
Red Gambit managed to win the upper division of the seven-furlong Thungabhadra Cup, but youngsters were not up to that standard in the lower division and went down to Simply Fabulous. The pace became so slow in the straight that Simply Fabulous, who was conserved
well by Shinde until then, appeared like a champion as he came out of the bunch and stormed away.
An Alnasr Alwasheek scoring his career’s first win in category IV may put the breeders to shame, but it became true when three-year-old Mahseer converted his third attempt in the bottom category into victory. Although the manner of his win was impressive, it is
certainly not the kind of start one expects a horse with such a fine bloodline to have. Fashion For Ever, another horse with god bloodline (Young Senor – My Diamond Girl), won the upper division of the race, Twin Roses Plate.
