The three-year-old filly Magic Touch made a fabulous start to her Mumbai campaign when she decimated her opponents in the M. H. Ahmedbhoy Trophy. The bay filly, considered a strong contender for the Indian Oaks along with Desert Lightning, was ridden off the pace by P. S. Chouhan. Favourite Oriental Express meanwhile was had embarked on a start to finish mission with Naill McCullagh in saddle.

Magic Touch was already under pressure and scrubbed by Chouhan as the field took the turn for home. Magic Touch (Razeen-Magic Fountain) pounced on both Oriental Express and Glorious Beauty who were trying to settle the issue among themselves. Magic Touch was unstoppable once she got into rhythm and simply walloped her rivals.

Dedication (Tirol-Compassion) was another youngster who stole the hearts of the racegoers. The Arti Doctor trained dark bay gelding was required to be hard ridden by Irishman Mark Gallagher to spurn the spirited challenge posed by Ardmore and second favourite Si Gentille. Subhag Singh’s ward found herself baulked for room opposite the stands and her saddle partner Samuel Fargeat was unable to extricate her out of that mess. She ended a short head behind Ardmore.

Narendra Lagad saddled a popular brace right at the start of the day. Thundering Star (Tirol-Eastern View) gave no anxious moments to his followers he was sighted as a winner long way from home when S. N. Chavan alerted him to his task. Stupendous, High Five and Hard Rock followed the winner in that order.

Don Gama finally emerged from the maiden ranks with a thumping victory over Kon Tiki and Cincinnati. The bay son of Don Micheletto out of Fascinating Girl was steered confidently by Sunny Chinoy. Kon Tiki started galloping when the race was all over in favour of Don Gama but she should not linger in the maiden ranks for long.

The winning post arrived at the right time for Dr Anil Kumar trained filly Mustang Sally (Cruachan-God’s Desire) as jockey R. Rupesh drove her powerfully to evade the grip of Spade of Ace. The latter came menacingly close to toppling the winner near the post. Starmaniac retired to place third after running a forward race. Favourite Power League ran a pathetic race and was the biggest let down of the day for the fans of Naill McCullagh.

Hormuz Antia’s money-spinner Exotic Fantasy (Razeen-Cover Story) established a winning lead when the field entered the home stretch and kept going to win from So Shocking and Star Gold. So Shocking was sluggish at the start but made good progress to be in contention when the field arrived at the bend.

Despite running after a gap of over a year, Cooji Katrak saddled Tantrik (Razeen-Stolen Kisses) had enough power to weave a web of magic around the eighteen-horse filed in the concluding event. Powered by P. Kamlesh, the bay gelding grabbed the lead from Keisha and Silent Spectator and sailed away for a comfortable win. The late rally of favourite Natural Vision made no difference to the end result.
