IN-FORM JONTY RHODES WINS THE MARATHON OF
INDIAN HORSERACING WITH GREAT EASE
The
six-year-old gelding Jonty Rhodes was seen in irrepressible form
on Sunday as he went on to win the Suresh Mahindra Trophy for
the second time in three years. The manner of victory of this
son of Traveler’s Aide out of Goldie Girl was quite similar to
the one he registered two years ago. Party Whip set a scorching
pace to lead the field of five but was a spent force after only
three-fourths of the journey was over. More...

THE NANOLI STUD-SPONSORED PUNE DERBY THROWS
ANOTHER SURPRISE WINNER IN PICCOLINA
For the
fourth successive year it was a filly that came out with flying
colours in the Pune Derby and like her predecessors she too was
among the least fancied to win this event. The bay filly
Piccolina — now sporting shades of grey on her sprightly frame
— annihilated her blue-blooded rivals which included Storm
Again, Flensburg, Access All Areas and Star Shine to name a few.

SONALIKA
SHOCKS THEM ALL IN THE FILLIES’ AND MARES’ STAKES
Although
it left them with a gaping hole in their pockets, the
superlative performance of Sonalika did certainly win the hearts
of the genuine lovers of this sport as the underdog filly
humbled an opposition which included, among others, Pleasures
and Al Dente. The Nirad Karanjawala- trained four-year-old filly
by No Louder out of Pot of Gold did proud to her connections by

ACCESS
ALL AREAS CRUISES TO AN AUTHORITATIVE WIN IN S. A. POONWALLA
MILLION
Backed to the exclusion of her twelve rivals, Access All Areas
made her twelve rivals in the S. A. Poonawalla Million (Grade 2)
look quite ordinary. As Access All Areas had arrived in Pune
armed with the impressive record of running second to Six Speed
and Arrakis at Bangalore, it was but natural that she be the
obvious choice of many to win the prestigious race. Rising to
the occasion the bay filly cruised away for an authoritative win
in the hands of none else but Aslam Kader. More...

SO LUCKY ALCHEMY LOSES TO ALAMEDA IN A THRILLING FINISH FOR THE

Alchemy were involved in a one of those rare, breath-taking
finish witnessed on the turf here this season and the two steeds
were fighting for honours in the Idar Gold Trophy (Grade 3) on
Sunday. Deriving the best from the talent-reserves of jockey
Aslam Kader, the 5 to 4 against favourite Alameda prevailed by a

MISSION
ACCOMPLISHED BY AL DENTE IN THE SOUTHERN COMMAND GOLD TROPHY
If Darius Byramji asks one of
his wards with just three wins during a short career to boast of
to match strides with Class I horses in Western India, there is
bound to be some sceptism of his ability. But a chip of the old
block that he is, young Darius was presumably aware of the
calibre of the horses based in Western India that are presently
rated above 80 by the handicapper. Hardly surprising then if he
dispatched Al Dente to stake claim on the Southern Command Gold
Trophy. More...

bay filly by Portroe out of Worthwhile, gave a top-notch
performance on her maiden appearance here to win the Parx-General

racing programme. The Narendra Lagad nurtured filly ridden by C.
Rajendra appeared very keen in the initial stages of the race
but the jockey did well to get her settled as C. Ruzaan-piloted
Piccolina carried the torch for the field till the final 400m. More...

he arrived with The Music Man from Bangalore to take on some of
the good type of Western India-based youngsters in the F. D.
Wadia Trophy (Grade 2) on Sunday. The outcome was not
surprising. The Music Man (Distinctly North – Isola)
