It was nearly a year ago when Kanthara was last seen being led into the winner’s enclosure. Kanthara, co-owned by Vispi Patel along with RWITC chairman Khushroo Dhunjibhoy, played second fiddle in three group three events including the Indian 2000 Guineas where she ran just half-length behind her stable-partner Rapidash. |

Imtiaz Sait saddled Live Legend had been blazing the morning tracks giving rise to the hopes of a winning debut. The Pesi Shroff ridden progeny of Razeen caught a tartar in Sail Away, who was spurred into a gallant run by Y.S. Srinath. The Nina Lalvani trained son of Greensmith ran green as he threw a challenge at Live Legend close home but managed to gain the upper hand in the shadow of the winning post. Pesi tried to reverse the placings in the Stewards’ room where Srinath was given the benefit of doubt and rightly so because Sail Away was travelling the better of the two when Live Legend met interference. Lack of experience may have done in Live Legend in this run but he surely lives to fight for yet another day. Star Gold and Convenience completed the final frame and it would come as a surprise if they do not gain from this exposure. |
| Three unsuccessful starts of Path of Fortune this season forced Dallas Todywalla to put his thinking cap on and he came up with the decision to use blinkers on the Warrshan filly. The decision clicked and paid handsome dividends for the admirers of Path of Fortune who were delighted to see jockey B. Prakash settling her in a striking position after coming out from the widest draw. Path of Fortune spurted well in the straight leaving the bunch of her rivals to struggle behind. Get Fresh ran a good second followed by Lochmaben, who improved rather late and just about managed to thwart the attempts of Absolute Dominance to deny him the third place. |

Dallas made another point day the day earlier when he entrusted Star Holme to the 3.5kg-claimer Towfeeq Shaikh. The apprentice rode the chestnut with great confidence to justify the faith reposed in him by the champion trainer. Star Holme scored at the cost of Bionic Angel, who was the biggest flop of the day. The grey filly sent out by Bezan Chenoy and piloted by C. Rajendra never raised any hopes for the moneybags, who were convinced about her supremacy. It was inconceivable for the supporters to even dream that Bionic Angel would behave like an imp. She did so and let them down in a lowly manner. This trauma faded a bit when Dunbar accomplished a narrow victory over Sasha later in the day. Dunbar was coaxed into the lead by Rajendra at the top of the home stretch and appeared coasting home for a comfortable victory. Dunbar survived the nightmare given by both Sasha and Kimberley Star, who staged a late entry on to the scene. Earlier in the day, Cape Merino defied the handicapper for an encore. Amyn Merchant rode a neat race astride the Robert D’Mellow trainee. A similar effort from Anil Baandal aboard Latest News saw the candidate from Narendra Lagad’s yard frustrate favourite Sign of Class, who was shaping like a winner till a couple of yards before the wire. |
