Dream Destiny (Glory of Dancer-Cabrona) had found the sprint journey too short for his liking which was evident from his late flourish in his earlier forays twice this season. Pesi
sent him out over an extra two furlongs on this occasion and the results were there for all to see. Jockey C. Ruzaan, in contrast to his previous effort, succeeded in having his mount up with the field and then when he gave Dream Destiny his head, the bay gelding simply cruised away for an emphatic win over Desert Sunrise and Mustang Sally. Joint-favourite Newfoundland was in the hunt till the bend but faded away from the scene gradually after failing to find the requisite acceleration in his strides.
Debutante Rococo's (Diffident-Chloe's Delight) inexperience was a cause for anxiety for his supporters as he found it difficult to overtake leader Kinnari in the straight. However, jockey P. Kamlesh's perseverance finally paid off when the chestnut gelding stepped up the pace in the final furlong and stamped his authority over the field.
SomethingAboutHer (Local Talent-Something Beautiful) was to be the perfect icing on Pesi's cake of celebration. Initial fears were being expressed about the bay filly's ability to stay the gruelling trip but they were quashed as soon as the field of nine took the first right-handed turn. So beautifully poised was the young filly during the entire trip that it would not be an exaggeration to say that SomethingAboutHer resembled a Rolls Royce running amidst a motley crowd of Ambassadors. The winner was sighted long way from
home when the other contenders were off the bridle. Ruzaan had something in reserve when he
finished nearly three lengths clear of his nearest rival Golden Key. Royal Panache covered good ground to snatch the third place from Adrenaline Rush.
Exactly a week after River Dancer's success trainer Rehanullah Khan followed it up with a blockbuster double for owner Iqbal Nathani. The first one was aptly named Master Planner (Major Impact-Rhinefield Beauty) and jockey Pradeep Chouhan again played a vital role in the driver's seat. There was so much power packed in Master Planner's late surge that Red Dawn had no option but to capitulate near the post. Arzano ran a game third.
Handicap was the key to Love And Be Loved making amends for her narrow loss to Storm Alert in the lower class earlier and also providing her master with a back-to-back double. However, were it not for the dream opening received by the daughter of Warrshan out of The Rule, Vikram Walkar would've certainly had a tough time in collaring Charging Rhino and Game of Power.
Jockey C. Rajendra finally had a rare brush with success when Innovator (Placerville-Louis A La Plage) made a winning debut. However, the support for him waned in the betting ring and it was Sea Storm who caught the fancy of the moneybags. The Bharath Singh trainee however failed to make any impact on the outcome after Ancient Princess seized the initiative at the start. Another horse to
disappoint in this race was Beau Monde whose reluctance to display her true potential was not missed by the discerning racegoer though it may have gone unnoticed by the Stipendiary Stewards. The same strategy was adopted by
her barnmate Vena Amoris in the race won by Master Planner despite her likely alibi that the heavy impost on her back was the cause for her downfall.
The flared nostrils of Vijay Kasbekar trained Arabian Hero (Don't Forget Me-Sunburst Sue) put paid to the hopes of dickey-legged Empeachment, who had all but upset the applecart of the fancied runners. There was lot of support for Cracker but the mare was in no mood to oblige although she did keep the hopes of the punters alive by assuming her front-running role in the initial stages. She flopped miserably when the race took a serious turn and ended in the rut.
C. S. Jodha added one more to his tally of winners partnered for Nina
Lalvani when rank outsider California (Brave Hunter-Look) raised an effective gallop to outwit both Degas, who threatened to runaway with the race in the straight, and favourite Hugo, who may have been a victim of C.Alford's long absence from the Pune track. The Calcutta based rider brought Imtiaz Sait's ward wide into the straight and lost precious ground in the process. Royal Hunt and Raudo both ran below par.
Rising Warrior (Concordial-Inimitable) established what turned out to be a winning lead in the straight and held on gamely from the late finishing Mint Master in the concluding event. The runner-up received enthusiastic support and had I. Shaikh not given him too much to do in the home stretch, Mint Master would've surely obliged. Emerging Power was a victim of interference at the gates, a notorious practice which is becoming a norm rather than an exception in Western India and yet the
Stipes remain silent spectators probably because they are unable to detect any abnormality in such incidents.
