The script given to B. Prakash presumably would've not contained the scenario where Ruben Star was making the early running. The bay gelding however confronted Prakash with this eventuality by fighting for his head as soon as the gates flew open. Prakash was in a dilemma for a moment, whether to allow Ruben Star to dictate the terms or not, but he has been long enough in this game to understand that two wrongs never make one right. So, he chose not to disappoint his mount and eased him into the lead. After travelling for about three-furlongs, Prakash gradually got Ruben Star to relax.
The plot hardly changed in the next six furlongs as Ruben Star strode out magnificently without throwing any alarms for Prakash. Priapus gained ground
at the end to finish ahead of Almandine. Ruben Star, who has not been vanquished since his maiden victory in May, thus gained his fourth successive win. His dress rehearsal over, Ruben Star has set his sights on the Nanoli Stud sponsored Pune Derby
in mid-October and Ganapathy has enough time on his hand to rejuvenate his
protégé for his final showdown of this monsoon.
The connections of Ruben Star were seen performing the winning rituals once again when Empirical (Greensmith-Victory And Gold) gave a rousing performance in the September Handicap. Strathendrick attracted more support than Empirical and opted for the start-to-finish route to execute his mission. The Razeen progeny however had no steam left as he came down the hill in the straight. Empirical cruised ahead and accomplished a comfortable win over Rockefeller, who while reducing the margin of defeat certainly gave an impression that C. Ruzaan got Pesi Shroff's ward going a trifle too late.
Star Bird, also belonging to the small pack of thoroughbreds under Ganapathy's
charge at this centre failed to deliver the goods when she ran a lacklustre race in the Albertini Plate (Div-II). The filly never seem to be in the hunt as the Bezan Chenoy trained filly Druids Glen (Bluebird-Vaga Follia) lived up to the promise shown in her debut run and but not before digging into her reserves to emerge triumphant over Shambaala, who was not disgraced in this defeat. The experience of Malcolm Kharadi might have given the scales a slight tilt in favour of Druids Glen. Siebel ran on nonchalantly to end third ahead of Star Bird, who was seemingly out for an airing.
A lot of money went down the drain when Narendra Lagad saddled Beau Monde got squeezed out of contention at the start leaving the doors open for Attention Seeker (Diffident - Inca Tern), next-in-demand in the betting ring, to enter the winner's enclosure. The speed machine stationed in Mansingh Jadhav's backyard stormed into the lead when C. Rajendra stepped on the gas and left her rivals stranded. Runner-up Totalitarian came with long ranging strides to hit the tape ahead of Mantovani and Zuetina.
All Or Nothing (Razeen-Sabrina) brought some precious stake-money for Rehanullah Khan when Vikram Walkar spurred the bottom-weighted filly to a hard-fought victory over Great Giver and the late-finishing Baryshnikov. Second To Go showed improvement over her last run and some more fine-tuning could see her tread on the winning path. Cracker flattered till entering the straight and retired but should not be written off in haste.
Premier Star (Placerville-Star Spangled) put his previous run behind his back and then endured Malesh Narredu's intense whipping to interrupt the winning spree unleashed by Intrinsic Value after coming to Altaf Hussain's barns. Rookie Dashrath Singh hit the front with Intrinsic Value for the seven-furlong trip and was being hailed as a winner close home when the Imtiaz Sait trainee got into his rhythm. Hugo ran a tame third followed by Amadomio.
Dashrath did taste some success when he sent the Magansingh Jodha nurtured grey gelding Power Zone (Meritocrat-Sunshine) into the lead at the turn and then kept him going to survive the feeble threat posed by Julpha. Ishtar took time to warm up before depriving Realism a paying slot on the
judge's board. Constantia never appeared to be in the hunt though some stray support was witnessed in her favour.
