A memorable moment… Young Zareer Darashah leads in his first winner You Will (Jim Foley up) way back in 1976 at the Secunderabad Race Course. Racing is no longer held at Secunderabad, with the Hyderabad Race Club building its racecourse at Malakpet. Jim Foley, who passed away last year at the ripe age of 80, subsequently had a highly successful career as a trainer for turf baron Dr M A M Ramaswamy and practically won all the big races in India, including the Indian Derby.
Young Cavalier (Md Shafiq up), one of the best horses trained by Darashah of 1975 vintage. The horse won more than half a dozen races for the trainer and was the highest rated horse of the year.
Birdie (Jaggy Dhariwal up) which won the Nilgiris Gold Cup, one of the famous races in Indian racing calendar in the past, being led in by trainer Darashah way back in 1972. Also seen is part owner of the horse G Mohan. Incidentally, Dhariwal also became a successful trainer and is currently a private trainer to Dr Vijay Mallya. Dhariwal. He has two Indian Derby wins to his credit, the wins coming through champion thoroughbreds Chaitanya Chakram and Storm Again.
