Odds at race time: Askarel 11/10, Fragrant Meadow 13/4, Super Falsh and Vignet 7/1, Truly Rich and Gold City 10/1.

Allowing Vignet and Fragrant Meadow to do the early running Askarel was fighting for his head in third place with Truly Rich and Gold City keeping each other company in the rear. Once Askarel was shown the daylight near the home turn it was all over bar the shouting with Fragrant Meadow and Vignet fighting for the minor places.

FRAGRANT MEADOW (I Chisty) was fractious in the stall.

Jockey S Domingo, the rider of Gold City when questioned as to the reason he stopped riding on his mount from about the 300 metres, explained that the filly was putting her head down and not galloping freely, possibly feeling the heat, was noted. However, the rider was severely reprimanded that he rides out his mounts past the winning post.

Race Commentary

Odds at race time: Rock Superstar 13/4, Arrayal 4/1, Betelgeuse and Symphatico 6/1, rest at longer odds.

Romantic Escape showed early speed chased by Corvino, Arrayal, Symphatico, Betelgeuse, Salinger with Dil Chahta Hai a bit tardy at the gates. At the 1000 metres marker it was Romantic Escape still showing the way followed by Symphatico, Salinger travelling six horses wide with Arrayal on the rails with the rest far behind. Arrayal was the first to make his move down the middle with Betelgeuse hard at work and Salinger flying on the wide outside and won the race from Arrayal on the post.
  
 

 
 

Race Reports

CORVINO (Gajender Singh) hit the rear gate after being loaded, was examined by the Manager – Veterinary Services ,declared fit and permitted to race.

SARRAYAL (M F Ali Khan) and DIL CHAHTA HAI (S Domingo) were very difficult to load thereby delaying the start. SALINGER (V Jaiswal) and DIL CHAHTA HAI (S Domingo) were slow off losing about 2 to 3 lengths each. The Manager – Veterinary Services reported that CORVINO (Gajender Singh) sustained bleeding cut injuries on its right stifle fold during the running of the race.

Gallant Commander made every pole of the 1400 metres race a winning one and kept on increasing his lead at every post to retire a comfortable winner. Andrology and Fabulous Emperor were seen disputing for the early lead who in turn were followed by Antenor, Way To The Stars, Wizard Of Oz with Royal Dazzle and Acton Town losing precious ground at the start. As the race took a serious turn, Antenor was alighted of the task ahead and cantered away for a convincing win over the late finishing Royal Dazzle.

WIZARD OF OZ (I Chisty) and ROYAL DAZZLE (Md. Islam) were slow off losing about 2 to 3 lengths each.

ACTON TOWN (N Akhtar) was slow off losing about 4 to 5 lengths, and thereafter trailed the field till about the final bend. Jockey Neeraj Rawal, the rider of ANTENOR, reported loss of whip at about the 300 metres. The Manager – Veterinary Services reported that WIZARD OF OZ (I Chisty) returned bleeding from both nostrils. Tr. E Bhungard has been advised not to accept with his charge till certified fit by the Manager – Veterinary Services.

Race Commentary

Odds at race time: Mythical Star 18/10, Eternal Spirit 7/2, Italian Splendour 5/1, Arabian Boy and Autumn Rose 8/1 and the rest at 12's and over.

Italian Dzire hit the front hotly chased by Autumn Rose with Mythical Star travelling four horses wide who in turn was followed by Aeropostale, Italian Splendour, El Cid, Arabian Boy with Asmodeus in the rear. At the bend it was still Italian Dzire in front with El Cid gaining ground along the rails with Asmodeus being produced seven horses wide. But the aged El Cid floored all to win the race from the long time leader Italian Dzire with Asmodeus a noteworthy third.
 
 

 
 
Race Reports

Mr. Vikash Jaiswal, the trainer of EL CID, was questioned regarding the improved performance of his charge as compared to its previous outings in Race Nos. 208 (The Quincy Handicap) and 215 (The Exclusive Virtue Handicap) run on 3rd and 4th April, 2008 respectively wherein the gelding finished off board. The trainer stated that on this occasion the gelding had run with a weaker set as compared to his earlier two consecutive runs and perhaps the soft underfoot conditions on the last occasion also did not suit the gelding, as such it won today, was noted. However, the trainer was warned to ensure that his charges raced more consistently in future.

Race Commentary

Odds at race time: Elusive Fortune 85/100, Loughborough and Italian Glory 6/1, Glenbervie, Starlite, Elegant Road and Prospective Queen all at 12/1.

Glenbervie opened a huge lead of over a distance for the 2000 metres trip followed by Loughborough, Italian Glory, Elegant Road, Starlite with Prospective Queen and Elusive Fortune in the rear. With some 1000 metres from home Glenbervie's lead was being cut down Loughborough with Starlite putting his act together while the rest were being pushed to keep up the pace. Below the distance post Starlite came with a good run to land the spoils from Italian Glory and Loughborough.

Arabian Muisc showed early speed followed by Vanila Glory, Light Of Law, Master Marvel, Valintine Dancer, Ruby Star, Finders Keepers, Lusitania and Flymetothestars. Rounding the bend Arabian Music was in front with Master Marvel inching close towards the leader with Finders Keepers and Light Of Law keeping each other company with the others falling back. Master Marvel was seen travelling best of the lot to win easily.

Since Jockey Salim Khan was indisposed, Tr. Vikash Jaiswal was permitted to substitute Jockey S Domingo to ride his charge SCHUMACHER.

FINDERS KEEPERS (V Jaiswal) was slow off losing about 2 lengths. The saddle used on LUSITANIA (P S Chouhan) slipped during the running of the race. Tr. Patrick Quinn was fined a sum of Rs. 500/- for the lapse. Jockey Gajender Singh, the rider of VANILA GLORY reported that his mount was changing legs on more than one occasion, was noted. The Manager – Veterinary Services has been requested to examine the gelding and submit his report.

Race Commentary

Odds at race time: Charulata 4/1, One Man Army 9/2, Foot Tapper and Secret Move 5/1, Triple Edge and Bullet Proof 6/1, Mystro 7/1, others at 10's and over.

Thousand Stars was quickest out of the blocks with Bullet Proof on his heels followed by Charulata, Foot Tapper, Triple Edge and the rest. As the field came into view ,Charulata came the shortest way home along the rails to take over the running with Foot Tapper devouring ground but his efforts fell short at the wire as the winning post came to the rescue of Charulata.

Since Jockey I Chisty was indisposed, Tr. D M David was permitted to substitute Jockey Surjeet Singh to ride his charge TRIPLE EDGE.

SABRE KNIGHT (N Akhtar) was slow off losing about two lengths.
  
 

 
 
G E N E R A L

1. At the request of Trs. H S Bath, Vijay Singh and Vikash Jaiswal, the following horses declared to start, were examined by the Manager – Veterinary Services on the morning of Friday, 11th April, 2008 and found to be lame as mentioned against each, as such the under mentioned horses were permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds :- VANCOUVER (The Balam Handicap) - Lame on left fore. MISCHEVIOUS ROSE (The Salvage Handicap) - Stiff on hind quarters. WATER WOOD -do- - Lame on right fore. Their respective Trainers have been advised not to accept with their charges till certified fit by the Manager – Veterinary Services.

2. ITALIAN HERO declared to start in The Balam Handicap was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary ground.

3. Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys P S Chouhan, I Chisty, D Singh and App I Khan was carried out and found to be clear. 4. On the morning of Saturday, 12th April, 2008, the following horses were examined by the Manager – Veterinary Services and reports submitted as under :-
