The second classic of the Bangalore Summer Season is slated to be held on Sunday. The Colts Championship Stakes (Grade I) has attracted a quality field of fifteen runners. It goes without saying that most of them are really talented, and  it would be no surprise if they are seen racing in the highest category within the next one year. The comparative ratings of these runners at this stage of their career, are only indicative of their present form and fitness. Hachiko was one of the highest rated horses at the beginning of summer, but because Shivalik Hero, Maths Baby and Silver Birch trounced their opponents in their lead-up races, the three runners find themselves at a mark ahead of him. There is little doubt that Hachiko possesses the best credentials. He completed a hat-trick of  unbeaten victories while winning The Poonawalla Multimillion at Mumbai. After taking over the running in the straight, Hachiko had managed to keep Day's Best at bay. The entire racing fraternity was looking forward to their next clash on Sunday. However, that was not to be. Day's Best reportedly "bled" during his track work last week, and was withdrawn from this race. Hachiko was next pitted in The Juvenile Colts Championship at Mahalakshmi, wherein, he was asked to concede five kilos to most of his rivals. Travelling over a mile, he ended a close third behind Blue Ace and Borsalino. After his arrival at Bangalore, Hachiko has been sighted regularly on the training track. He was given a feel of the local grass by testing him in a mock race earlier in the season. Being satisfied with his progress, trainer MK Jadhav has kept him in light work thereafter. This brilliant galloper is sure to start as the first favourite  in the day's feature.

The connections of Math's Baby have chosen to pay a large sum to ensure his participation as a final entrant. This Dhariwal trainee is an improving type with a lot of potential. He trounced Class III opponents in brilliant fashion during the first weekend of summer. The timing that he clocked that day was quite impressive. Another runner that stopped the clock at an awesome timing was Pesi Shroff's Silver Birch. It was his first start after being gelded. Carrying a back-breaking 62.5 kilos, he performed like a seasoned campaigner. If he has improved any further, then this ownermate of Hachiko can prove to be a danger to most of the runners. Shivalik Hero and Borsalino are blessed with speed and stamina. While the first-named likes to come from behind, the latter is a free-striding fella. Both of them are reportedly in fine health, and the respective stables are hugely optimistic about their chances. Racegoers are eagerly awaiting the result of this race. In case we have a result similar to the one that we witnessed in The Fillies Championship Stakes last week, then the "Derby Picture" will become a real puzzle.
