The Juvenile Sprinter's Million (Grade III) will be up for grabs at the Bangalore races on Sunday. It is unusual to see only seven youngsters competing for the top prize in this race. There are a number of talented three year olds currently stationed at this centre which could have been pitched at the deep end, but for reasons known best to their respective yards, they were scratched at the acceptance stage. Since there are penalties for those who have won more than once, Imtiaz Siat's Deja Vu is seen conceding three kilos to his rivals. He won both his starts at Mumbai in identical fashion. Producing a strong burst of speed in the final furlong, and despite shifting out, this gelding was able to add a couple of points to his trainer's tally. His present track trials have been quite suggestive, and it may not surprise many if he puts up a brave show in the day's feature.

However, he will have to contend with Vijay's Best and Manyatta. The first named made a fine impression while winning his only start this summer. He emerged from the maiden ranks by scoring a bloodless victory over a runaway Thunderbay. The value of the said performance got further enhanced when Thunderbay scored on tight reins the following week. Vijay's Best is blessed with a lot of speed, and the got-abroad colt seems to have peaked at the right time in his career. Deshmukh's stable may continue its dominance of the major events this season. In my opinion, he will be the one to beat in this race. Manyatta's eight length victory on the Mahalaksmi turf was quite effortless. Mallesh Narredu's stable has waited patiently for this event. He won a mock race a few weeks ago, and has been sighted regularly on the training track. Manyatta would have won easily in handicap company, but then, he would have had to carry another three kilos on Sunday. The day's feature is sure to be a closely contested affair.

Irfan Ghatala's talented three year old Diamonite was unlucky last week, when she stumbled and parted company with Suraj half way through the race. The public choice was travelling comfortably till that stage, and her manner of running suggested that she was on her way to a comfortable victory. Wanting to capitalize on her present form and fitness, the trainer has chosen to run her within a few days of that incident. Since Irfan is known to race his horses sparingly, this action on his part indicates his personal confidence in the filly. She looks poised to recoup the losses suffered by her connections last week. Diamonite is selected as the day's best betting proposition.
