The Maharaja’s Cup (Grade III), a terms race for horses four years old and over, features a long card of nine events framed for Friday’s racing at Mysore. This mile event has attracted some top class horses and the competition is expected to be intense. Satish Narredu’s Super Storm finds himself at a handy mark in this race. Under the guidance of Suraj, this talented colt is sure to make a bold bid to lift this coveted trophy. The Indian Derby winner will have to contend with stiff opposition from Immense, Panamera and Bold Police. Both Immense and Bold Police ended close to each other in Sovetskaya’s victory a fortnight ago, and are once again meeting at identical terms on Friday. Since the two of them are equally comfortable over an extra furlong, they are sure to figure prominently at the finish. Panamera returns to local racing after making a successful trip to Pune. She beat the likes of Neona and Maple Star in The Fillies and Mares Stakes at that centre. The small made mare is blessed with a smart turn-of-foot, and PS Chouhan is sure to make full use of it in the straight. With a number of others in the fray, this race looks like an “open affair”.
After winning her first two career starts during the summer months against those in her own age group, Z Darashah’s three year old Artic Rose was asked to take on seasoned opponents in a class III sprint held during the early stages of this season. She ran exceedingly well to end a good third behind Tijuca Forest and Violent Storm in that race. The filly will be running over a similar trip of 1400 metres on Friday. The difference this time shall be, that the filly will have to contend with only Mysore based horses. She looks so much superior to her present opposition, that I have little hesitation in nominating Artic Rose as the day’s best betting proposition.
