Shubh Puts His Shubh Foot Forward

Shubh Shubh returned to the winning block after a gap of ten months. It was an easy journey for him in the Round Table Conference Plate, which was earmarked for class three horses. Apart from Shubh Shubh, Exotic Star was the other favourite to oblige in the card of six framed for the second day (actually the first) of the Delhi new season. Trainer Ishwar Singh Parmar and jockey K Narender Kumar shared a treble each. There were heavy rains early morning. Many thought that the beginning of season would be put off by another week. However, it’s the hardship of the new caretaker of the course, R Manjunath (who also holds the portfolio of the Stipendiary Steward), that altered the scenario. Manjunath swung into action by inspecting the course during rain. However, under heavy underfooting, the races were among the horses who tracked well. The bay colt Shubh Shubh (K Narender atop) had almost no opposition. He showed an early dash but then allowed another speedy customer Custer to dictate proceeding. Only at the top of the homestretch, the four-year-old victor regained his own self and left the field gasping for breath. "His potential was never under scanner, but it was his ill-fated luck which came his way during the previous season," Ishwar Singh Parmar told me. "After receiving a narrow defeat at the hands of Dream Debut twice, he struggled to maintain the fitness. Despite this, he was prepared for the classic but performance was below par," he said. "Since he has come to hands, he should definitely win the top class events," he added. Shy Beauty and Take A Chance spent precious time in fighting for the runner-up berth that finally went in favour of the former. Ashwa Paddma and Ashwa Pallavi bear watching. The season's opener turned out to be memorable day for Miss Sanyogita Chauhan. Her Crossword (GS Shekhawat astride), who landed spoilsports in the upper division of the Dandee March Plate, enabled her to lead-in on debut as an owner. The favourite Sangreal could not find better place than second. Little Cut could have met with success, had the iron stirrup not broken during the course of running. Yare defeated half-money Lady Trooper handsomely in the lower division of the Dandee March Plate. However, the latter who was alerted to the task a trifle late, will bounce back. Serious Attitude should soon strip fitter. Fire Queen was another favourite who crumbled under pressure. She was never allowed to run freely by Jewel Hunt. Young Anna, who recorded a facile victory over the public fancied, has the strides to stay. Fire Queen should come with vengeance. Exotic Star just managed to justify the top billing under K Narender Kumar. Sam Aldo and More Than A Woman, who ran second and third respectively, may strike soon. Through First N Impression, K Narender Kumar and Ishwar Singh Parmar earned their treble.
