Trainer Laxman Singh & N Adil Mirza leading Elzaam (Harinder Singh Up), winner of The Circar Cup

Laxman Singh-trained Elzaam (Tirol-Shark Games) took a sweet revenge over Guiding Light, in The Circar Cup, the main event of Monday’s races at Malakpet Race Course. Guiding Light had managed to beat Elzaam on the last stride when they raced together, early this month. Surprisingly, it was the stablemate Golden Queen, who received strong support in the betting, with Elzaam available at lucrative odds. Elzaam set out in front in a fast pace over the seven-furlong distance and stretched out on the home stretch to score an impressive victory. Guiding Light found the pace too hot to handle and settled for the runner-up berth while Blazing Asian and Golden Queen filled the frame.

Trainer Anupam Sharma had another successful day, leading in three winners to reach a total tally of 33. He stands second in the championship tally, falling short by two points. The extra day’s scores are not considered for tabulating championships at Hyderabad and the Winter Season officially came to an end on Monday. Qinghuangdao, Deepanjali and Yakshagana were the winners from Anupam’s stable and all three were ridden by Imran Chisty. Deepanjali (Gaswar-Pamela Bordes) rushed to take the box seat in front within the first furlong of the race and led all the way, in the lower division of the App.Jockey A.Pramod Goud Memorial Cup. Carson Troy fought out with Deepanjali inside the last 150 metres and finished third behind Fine Racer, who got into a galloping mood rather late. Qinghuangdao (Epicentre-Moon Beam) lifted the higher division of The Super Brave Plate, for three-year maidens, in a nail-biting finish with Nano Storm. The two fought a fierce battle right through the final furlong with Imran Chisty just managing to squeeze that extra from Qinghuangdao to pip Nano Storm in the last stride.

Yakshagana (Dance To Destiny-Executive Angel) won the lower division of The Pelican Plate, the last race of the day by a big margin of four lengths even after veering out in the last 200 metres. A second place was all that the favourite Corvette could manage. R.H. Sequeira’s One One One (Hymn-Carpentaria) unleashed a terrific run to burst into the lead to overwhelm the field in the higher division of The App.Jockey A Pramod Goud Memorial Cup. Rose Queen finished second while Armada improved late to take the third spot ahead of Bharatanatyam. Apprentice Ajit Kumar gave a splendid ride on My Tyson (Mischevious Music-Lek) to come with a re-run and beat Kuchipudi at the wire, in the higher division of The Pelican Plate. Flash Of Emerald on the rails, My Tyson on the outside and Kuchipudi in the centre got into a fight in the last furlong. My Tyson forged ahead but was soon overpowered by Kuchipudi and at that stage it looked like Anupam’s ward would wrap it up but Ajit brought My Tyson with a second run to snatch the race on the last stride.

K.S.V. Prasad Raju’s Days Of Thunder (Alnasr Alwasheek-Days Of Glory) travelled easy from start to finish, in The Hot Chocolate Plate, a race for three-year-olds in Category II. Drum Beat was withdrawn at the start of the day and jockey P.S. Chouhan replaced Imran Khan on Precisely That. L. D’Silva’s Silver Springs (Midtown-Striesand) wrapped up the lower division of The Super Brave Plate, with a start-to-finish run. Jockey S. John took the ‘odds on’ favourite into the front when the field was dispatched and picked up momentum on the straight to establish a sizable lead. Stylish Chieftan, Westminister and Angelica filled the frame. The Parliament (Burden Of Proof-Indian Endeavour) moved fast to take charge in the last furlong and thwarted the late effort of Sir Almas, in the opening race, the Gold Sovereign Plate.
