Mr. Vijay Kumar Gupta & trainer Laxman Singh leading Vijays Conquer (M A Gallagher Up), winner of The K Mahipathi Rao Memorial Million

Laxman Singh trained Vijays Conquer (Placerville-Queen To Conquer) carried the all green Silks of Vijay Racing & Farms Pvt Ltd, to a resounding victory in The K. Mahipathi Rao Memorial Million. Vijays Conquer looked robust in the parade ring when the six contenders turned up for their customary parade before the race and the son of Placerville received the maximum support, being backed to the exclusion of the other runners. Entering the home stretch, Vijays Conquer travelled smoothly, providing Gallagher an armchair ride while outclassing the meddling opposition. Anacostia managed to nudge out Castle Town for the runner-up berth.

Greek Fire (Hymn-Golden Wish) set the track ablaze in The Independence Cup, the supporting event of the day. Jockey Vivek rode the second favourite confidently in the final furlong to provide trainer J. Silvester a heart-warming victory. Greek Fire joined Caligatae within the first furlong of the race and the two raced in front throughout. As the race got to a boil inside the last 200 metres, Vivek pushed his mount ahead of Caligatae with ease. Alexander Square covered some ground towards the finish to beat Caligatae for the second place. The favourite Aloisia failed to get into rhythm at any stage of the race and finished off the board.

S.A. Shehzad Abbas’s Swiss Don (Don Micheletto-Swiss Maid) started the day, winning The Regency Cup with an effortless run under Imran Khan. Rallying in third till the bend, Swiss Don surged ahead to take charge and was eased up long way from home. Sheikh’s Emperor managed to get the better of Qinghuangdao for the second spot.

Laxman Singh was the only professional to score a double. His ward Ruffiano (Duja-Amber Eyes) scored an impressive win in The Vijayanagaram Plate, a five-and-a-half-furlong sprint for horses five years old and over in category III. Showing plenty of speed, Ruffiano joined the front group quickly and once on the straight, apprentice Harinder Singh guided Ruffiano to the front and the gelding stretched away to win as he liked from Music Valley. Pure Magic put her nose in front in the last stride to edge out Geography for the third place.

Anupam Sharma’s Brianna (Tejano-Traffic Police) pulled off an upset win in the higher division of The Grand Parade Cup. Jockey Laxmikant was quick to guide Brianna to the inner rails from the widest draw and led all the way, getting better and better with every stride towards the finish. The well-backed Corvette failed to augment a gallop despite the best efforts of jockey Imran Khan and ended up a tame third behind Star Prospect, who made a late bid.

Ananth Vatsalya’s Da Xia (Epicentre-Undoubted) wrapped up the lower division with a prominent run to complete an encore. A winner over a similar trip on the opening day of the season, Da Xia tracked the leader Rose Queen till the last 300 metres and moved fluently to go ahead and draw clear of the rest. Al Sarraah failed to get to the winner and had to share the runner-up berth with Sanjaa, who flashed on late to finish together. The judge, failing to separate the two in the photo finish, declared a dead-heat for the second place.

M. Sathyanarayana’s Santro (Mischevious Music-Angeles) was a runaway winner in The Noble Quest Plate, the concluding race of the day. Indian Epic was in futile chase in the last 200 metres but found the winner too good to deal with.
