Swiss Don Wins in a Close Finish

French saddle Artist Ladjadj Stephane powered his ride to a nicety on Shehzad Abbas schooled Swiss Don(Don Machiletto-Swiss Maid) to get the better of Golden Rule by a ‘head’, in the dying moments of the race, to lift the C.Sathyanarayana Memorial Cup. Vijays Conquer with 60 kilos on his back decided to go for it from the start. Approaching the last 200 metres Vijays Conquer lost all the steam and dropped out of contention rapidly. Golden Rule and Swiss Don, who were racing almost together in the rear, covered a lot of ground, pulling away from the rest midway up the straight and the two fought a stiff battle till the wire. Swiss Don just about managed to get his head in front at the finish. Da Xia finished third a long way behind.

The Time And place Plate, a 1100 metres scurry for horses in Category II was divided into two races. Prasad Raju’s wards lifted both the divisions. Indian Epic (Epicentre-Cosmic Swirl) won the lower division, beating a relentless Daniella close to the winning post. Indian Epic had won his earlier race but was disqualified after the jockey was found to have given him a dangerous ride which had resulted in another rider being dislodged. Indian Epic was entrusted to jockey P.S.Chouhan and the 4 year old emerged as a firm favourite going into the race. Racing in about seventh position as the field rounded the final turn, Indian Epic improved quickly through the shortest way along the rails. Daniella had surged ahead by then and was galloping relentlessly in front. Indian Epic weaved his way through the front runners and fought a grim battle with Daniella all along the last 100 metres, to finally have his ‘neck’ in front at the wire.

Commanding Heights (Hymn-Bumper To Bimper) ridden by apprentice G.Sai Vamshi won the lower division from Sun Strikes. Al Jabal, a customary front runner preferred to settle behind Victorous Sally, who got to the lead at the start. Entering the home stretch Al Jabal surged ahead and led till beaten by Commanding Heights inside the last 50 metres. Sun Strikes rallied on late to push Al Jabal to the third spot.

Chouhan had earlier in the day ridden Anupam Sharma’s Azaiba (Rebuttal-Queen Consort) to victory, in the lower division of the Grace Hanover Plate. The daughter of Rebuttal was installed as the favourite over the other seven rivals in the race moved swiftly to overtake the front running Attenborough and pull it off on debut. Arlington picked up speed late to finish second ahead of Attenborough.

Anupam’s ward Kohinoor Revanta was the favourite in the higher division of the race but the gelding who had found one better in his first attempt failed again to finish third. M.Sathyanarayana trained Power Planet (Epicentre-Classic Award) moved with a powerful run to snatch the race from Bold Attack on the last stride.

Donald Netto trained Dauntless (Young Senor-Victoria Rose) tracked Ache For Love till the final bend and surged ahead to establish a sizable lead on the straight and hold on from Silver Crown, who was finishing on towards the closing stages of the higher division of the Bakranangal Plate.

The lower division was won by R.H.Sequeira’s Hero’s Choice (Gaswar-Hero’s Best). With a swift move near the distance marker, Hero’s Choice surged ahead to score a comfortable win. Cannon Jet came with a flourish but found one better for the third successive time.

Sequiera’s Vijaysena (Libor-Simply Sensual) danced away to lift the Cabaret Plate, the opening race of the day. Nandanavanaa covered a lot of ground in the last 150 metres to finish second ahead of Scamper and Star Favours.

Trainers R.H.Sequiera and K.S.V.Prasad Raju and jockey P.S.Chouhan were the professionals to score a brace each on the day.
