Trainer L V R Deshmukh leading Vijays Angel (P S Chouhan Up), winner of The M L N Reddy Memorial Cup

L.V.R. Deshmukh’s Vijay’s Angel (Puerto Madero-Crepe De Chine) cruised to victory in the M.L.N. Reddy Memorial Cup, run over a distance of 2,400 metres. Half way through the race, Clever Ploy led the field closely followed by Royal Embassy, Vijay Dhanush, Vijay’s Angel, Sparks and Davenport tailed off last. As the six runners rounded the final bend, Vijay’s Angel cruised to take charge and stretched out to establish a big lead. Jockey P.S. Chouhan was easing up Vijay’s Angel as she went past the winning post. The stablemate Vijay Dhanush finished second ahead of Clever Ploy. Having already been nominated for the Stayers' Cup, the next destination for Vijay’s Angel is Mumbai, for the Invitational weekend.

track on fire, setting a new course record timing over the five furlongs sprint, in the Ch. V. Lakshmi Prasad Rao Sirdesai Sircilla Memorial Trophy. Glen Gyle took charge at the 600 metres marker and had a lead of almost three lengths approaching the distance marker. Commanding Heights started to charge towards the leader in the final 100 metres, bridging the gap at a fast pace but the winning post came to the rescue of Glen Gyle.

Shehzad Abbas-trained Cristiano (Don Micheletto-Fleet Footed) justified the favouritism in The Smt Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup, run over a metric mile. Arrow In Auto Mode and Cristiano raced together till the last 150 metres and, after a keen tussle, the latter surged ahead to register a win. Golden Rule managed to get the better of Arrow In Auto Mode to take the runner-up berth.

Apprentice Ajit Kumar was ‘Bang on Target’, being the only professional to score a double. He rode L. D’Silva-trained Mighty Prince to victory in The Elusive Pimpernel Plate and topped it with a back-to-back double on Sk. Kassam-schooled Bang On Target. Mighty Prince (Glory of Dancer-Polistatic) moved quickly from an outer draw to catch the inner rails and kicked on in the straight to score a facile win over Royal Quest. Trigger Happy was always there with the front bunch but failed to accelerate and finished third.

A successful gamble was pulled off by trainer Sk. Kassam in The Chirala Cup, run over seven furlongs. Bang On Target (Forest Gazelle-Wild Dreams) was backed as the firm favourite and apprentice Ajit Kumar rode a tactful race to emerge clear. Finding half a dozen horses in front on entering the straight, Ajit rightly made his move on the outside and drove the favourite to the front. Lord Nelson improved late to take the second place ahead of Chemeli.

Laxman Singh’s Royal Shaan (Royal Gladiator-Shanavi) set out on a start-to-finish mission, entering the home stretch with a run-away lead and staying clear from the late-finishing Blazing Asian, in the higher division of The Sir Bruce Plate. Blazing Asian moved from the rear to diminish the long lead but his efforts went in vain as Royal Shaan had the race well sewn up long way from home.

Drayton (Epicentre-Crystal Beauty) put in a strong run in the last 50 metres to get the better of the front-running Vijay Trishul, in the lower division, the concluding race of the day. Fearless Mission finished third ahead of Airborne Magic.
