Racing Set to Resume at Mysore

By Pearcey | 08 May 2010 | MYSORE

After a gap of almost three months, racing action is set to resume at Mysore on Wednesday, 12th May 2010. The 15-day Mysore Summer Season is scheduled to conclude on the 4th of August, with a day's racing being conducted every week during the interim period. The long gap has given an opportunity to the MRC authorities to get the track fit for racing. With three back-to-back season's running almost continuously till the third week of February 2011, the track looks in superb shape to take the heavy pounding. With proper care, this track is capable of taking about 60 days of racing in a calendar year.

A significant development in recent months at The Mysore Race Club has seen a fruitful culmination of the farsightedness and efforts of the Managing Committee led by its Chairman Mr Chanduranga Kanthraj Urs. Their decision to build new stables, conforming to world-class standards, has seen the light of day. The existing stables of the Club were located a few Kilometres away from the race course, and all these years, the horses had to be walked this distance for their morning trackwork as well as afternoon's racing. A decision to have their own stables within the premises of the MRC was taken. It is learnt that almost half of the 800 planned stables will be ready for occupation in the next few days, and the work on the balance shall commence simultaneously. Immense care has been taken to see that they conform to international standards, with more than enough light, air and space available for the horses. The trainers are eagerly looking forward to moving their wards to the new facility.

There are about 450 horses presently stationed at Mysore, and about 370 of them are expected to participate in the next three months. With most of them being six years old and over, it has been the Club's desire to improve their stock. An incentive in the form of a credit of Rs 2000 per month to the owner's account, for every two year-old brought to the MRC for racing, has seen an encouraging increase in the number of youngsters entering the Club's premises. Seventy-five two year-olds have already arrived this year, marking a big jump over the 35 that had been registered in 2009. This augurs well for this centre, and the quality of racing is bound to improve in the next few years. Bangalore-based trainers like S Ganapathy, Michael Eshwer and Warren Singh have applied for stables at Mysore, and have expressed a desire to race some of their wards at this centre.

The Club's website www.mysoreraceclub.com has been updated. Track work, handicaps, acceptances, declarations, revised ratings and racing incidents are available at this site. All pools shall be combined with the Bangalore Turf Club tote, and some extra terminals have been put in place to facilitate the betting public.

The stake money has been pegged at the same level as last year. A sum of Rs 2,66,35,750 has been announced as the total money on offer during this season. The horses have been working regularly on the track and the fields are likely to be well filled. Keen competition can be expected over the summer months and winner picking may prove to be difficult. Patrons would be well-advised to be conservative from a betting perspective.
