Slip Away stuns Marhaba for the rich haul

-

Slip Away posted a stunning head win over Marhaba in the Sports Lifestyle Million, the main attraction of the Delhi races on Tuesday. Victor's trainer Bharat T Singh shared a brace each with Rajinder. For the second consecutive day, favourites fell like nine pins.

For the last rich haul, eleven youngsters were in for the seven furlongs’ fray. Marhaba was quickest from his block but was soon displaced by Slip Away (Pawan Sharma atop). The Bharat Singh's trainee responded like a good galloper showing tremendous determination to maintain the start-to-finish mission for the maiden success. The colt of New Famous and Belles In the Mist has many aces under his sleeves.

Marhaba, undoubtedly the best youngster of the season, had the disadvantageous handicap come his way. The Brazilian Carlos had the son of Epicentre and Truly Scrumptious settle back in the ninth position before improving by a place, while straightening for the homestretch. He then looked trying to unleash a powerful kick to wear down slip Away but eventually shied away by a whisker. The dark bay colt possesses the potential of being "goed Paard". Ashwa Kundan never came out of the shadow of third position ahead of Master Champion. So Sweet, who finished sixth, bears watching.

Rajinder's Pretty Girl towered over her rivals by making every post a winning one in the Real stunner Plate, the opening event of the day's programmed. Mystic Miracle necked Assertive out for the runner-up berth. The heavily backed wild Power, who was close to the pace, crashed to the ground dislodging jockey Nazim near the 800mts marker. It is reported that Nazim had both his legs and right arm fracture including left ankle getting crushed.

Bharat T Singh-trained Ouef Toba (Dhanu Singh Deora astride) found his winning shoes in the lower division of the Real Roman Plate. The victory for the son of Hammerstein and Celine Dion came after a gap of two seasons. The achievement certainly boosts the moral of the horse, who had already bled through the nostrils twice in the last six months. Mysterio finished impressive second before bowing down to Ouef Toba. Valour burst its blood vessel after finishing third ahead of Bacha Quero, whose run is best ignored.

The upper division of the plate saw a close finish between Alabaster and Movie Queen in which the former prevailed by a head. The latter should make amends.  Rajinder's yard Spot Hit sprinted away in a pillar-to-post affair in the Real Sleek Plate. A consistent performer Hot And Classic never looked to be a live threat to the winner at any stage before finishing second ahead of the late galloper Ka Ching, who found the trip too short.

Ishwar Singh Parmar's Master Yunani slammed the door on the late finishing far superior in the concluding event of the day, Martini Plate. The latter, who is the son of Whipper and Almanzora Bay, should soon shed the maiden status.
