Red Cadeaux

Ed Dunlop trained Red Cadeaux pulled off a brilliant win in the G1 Longines Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tinrace course. This is the second success for Ed Dunlop in the race, having led in Ouija Board in the year 2005. Jockey Gerald Moose timed his move to a nicety on Red Cadeaux, to take the lead inside the last furlong and held on by a whisker from Jaguar Mail. Maxime Guyon ridden Meandre was a close third while Liberator could not squeese that extra after leading 1 furlong out and dropped out to finish fourth.

"He deserved this win," said trainer Dunlop. "Three pixels in the Melbourne Cup last year, no pace in the Melbourne Cup this year, and he got struck into in the Japan Cup and we should have finished sixth; he was the leading European horse there. It's a fantastic day for everyone."

The victory was very special for owner Ronald Arculli, a former chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club."It's a very big deal and all credit must go to the Dunlop Racing team, Ed, Becky and his Travelling Head Lad Robin. And credit too to Gerald Mosse, he's a very experienced rider here in Hong Kong and it helped that he rode the horse in Japan. A year in racing's a long time, but we might try Melbourne again next year."
