Davenport winning The Prince of Berar Trophy

Leo D’Silva’s Davenport trounced the mediocre opposition, in the Prince of Berar Trophy, the feature event of Monday’s races at Hyderabad. Bossei Girl who loves to cut the wind led till the final bend wherefrom Davenport sailed away to register an eight length victory. Bossei Girl who had fallen back to fourth managed to finish second as the other runners in front began to fade out.

Trainer M.V.Narayan Rao saddled a back to back double, winning on Classic One and One in All. Gnaneshwar who booted home Classic One in the lower division of the Esquire Plate had to survive an objection by the second placed Ocean of Pearls. Ocean of Pearls and Classic One started to fight out in the last 300 metres and as Classic One began to surge ahead, shifted in alarmingly due to which K.Anil, the rider of Ocean of Pearls had to check his mount and make a rerun. After a long deliberation the stewards decided to overrule the objection.

Rao scored again in the very next race, the lower division of the Rani Rudramma Devi Cup on the public rage One in All. Racing a handy second till the top of the straight One in All moved into the front with a fluent gallop in the hands of Rupesh. Chief De Mission rallied in late to take the second spot while Gables who was slow into the stride at the start flew in to take the third place.

Style Ikon who had taken a long time to come out of his maiden ranks, reproduced the winning gallop in the Commanche Cup. Style Ikon who seems to have one short burst of speed, used it to pass the front runners led by Jaan Baaz.

Cannon Scot who had finished third after missing the jump in his previous outing made amends to claim the higher division of the Rani Rudramma Devi Cup. Jockey Ch.K.Chary settled Cannon Scot in third, behind Al Jouf and True Force, till the distance marker and made his move thereafter to win comfortably. Leo Dvuj took the second spot.

The eagerness shown by Chary on Cannon Scot was missing in the previous two races, the higher and lower divisions of the Tanasha Plate, where he coincidentally was on the public fancies, Rainbow Fog and Disco Flash respectively. Nitin Singh who had replaced A.Ashhad Asbar on Jugnu, took his mount to the front from the start, opened a long lead on the straight and held on by half a length from Rainbow Fog at the wire. Rainbow Fog was asked to do a lot on the straight. A Fire Work ran on prominently throughout the race to finish third.

Kohinoor Mystic also won in similar fashion in the lower division. Vatsalya’s ward, fresh from his win a fortnight ago opened up a big leeway and warded off the late burst of Disco Flash. Ride to Glory’s saddle slipped approaching the distance marker and the jockey could not offer any assistance thereafter.

Democracy won the opening race with some hard riding by S.John. Democracy challenged the leader Admire Aura midway up the straight and surged ahead to win. Achiever was found to be struggling hard in third while the other fancied runner, Your Excellency never raised hopes at any stage.

A gamble on Torrestrella paid dividends in the higher division of the Esquire Plate, the concluding race of the day. After a few listless performances in the higher set, Torrestrella took a good jump and settled well with the front bunch probably realising that the right money was on her. She overtook the leader Autumn Gold and won easily. Bentota ran a mighty race towards the finish to encash his place tickets.
