L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Tintinnabulation (Intikhab-Tourmalet), winner of the Indian Turf Invitation Cup at Kolkata added one more classic feather to its cap while decimating its two opponents in the Golconda St. Leger – Grade II, the last classic of the monsoon season at Hyderabad. Specialist was withdrawn on veterinary grounds in the morning and the field was reduced to just three. Tintinnabulation was sent in as the money back favourite and the bay gelding had to just complete the formality. That he did well by decimating the opponents without any fuss.

As the gates opened the favourite was a bit sluggish and jockey P.S.Chouhan preferred to hold back and settle in the rear. Stable mate Vijays Champ moved forward to lead and the only western India challenger Angel Crown raced in second. Passing the half way stage Vijays Champ had drawn clear by a distance with the other two raced in the same order. Inside the last 1200 metres Tintinnabulation started to make headway and improved to be second. With two furlongs left from home Tintinnabulation bridged the gap to move alongside Vijays Champ and stretched out easily to win by over five lengths. Vijays Champ held on in second to give trainer L.V.R.Deshmukh and the popular ‘Pink and Red Stars’ silks a 1-2 in the race.

Jockey P.S.Chouhan who had ended his lean patch at Mysore with a treble, completed a hat-trick, winning all his three mounts. He rode L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Ashwa Shakti (Rebuttal-Speedwell) with great aplomb to clinch the Bangalore Turf Club Trophy in a thrilling finish. Hidden Destiny cut the wind at a fast pace over the 5 1/2 furlongs dash. Silver Crown tracked the leader about two lengths behind, followed by Days Of Thunder, Odalis, Bloody Mary, Ashwa Shakti, Indian Epic and Dream Deal. Approaching the last 200 metres Hidden Destiny was still in front, hotly chased by Days Of Thunder and Odalis making a strong bid widest of all. Even as the three began to fight it out, Bloody Mary with Suraj Narredu astride made a strong appearance and Ashwa Shakti also improved from behind, maneuvering its way through the field. The two broke away from the pack in a trice and both the champion riders, Suraj Narredu and P.S.Chouhan were in full flow. Ashwa Shakti used all its ‘Horse Power’ to forge ahead by a neck close to the winning post. Silver Crown finished third another length away and Odalis was fourth, a neck behind.

M.Srinivas Reddy trained Apprise (Midtown-Lyricist) who is in rousing form this season completed a hat-trick in the Scintillating Plate. Ponte Verdi was in front from the start, followed by The Himalayas, Price Warrior, Ace Star, Da Xia, Apprise and the other two in the rear. Into the last 300 metres Ponte Verdi continued to hold the advantage and Ace Star started to gain ground. Chouhan worked his way on Apprise and the 5 year old mare responded readily to surge past the two in front and win comfortably. Ace Star finished second while Qinghuangdao beat Ponte Verdi for the third place.

Leo D’Silva trained Green Bay (Ivan Denisovich-Livernut) was given a tactful ride by Suraj Narredu to win the Smt.C.Mohana Kumari Satyanarayana Memorial Cup. Regal Groom, which is still a maiden, was sent in as the firm favourite at a short price. Kathakali set off to lead the field followed closely by Green Bay, Sweety Girl, Citi Supreme and Regal Groom. The favourite loomed three off the fence and improved to run third as they approached the final turn. As they entered the home straight, Suraj was quick to take off on Green Bay and established a two lengths lead. Citi Supreme was on a hot chase and Regal Groom came under intense pressure when asked to quicken and lugged out badly. Jockey Shiva Kumar on Regal Groom continued to ride out and the 4 year old came menacingly in the last 50 metres but failed to collar Green Bay by quarter of a length. This was the third consecutive ‘second’ for Regal Groom and he continues to be a maiden. Citi Supreme finished third, another short head away.

Exclusive Lady (Gaswar-Share The Spirit) from the stables of S.S.Faisal Hassan won the opener, the Tick Tock Plate. Exclusive Lady which had scored its maiden win in its previous run, went on start to finish bid over the mile trip and successfully pulled off an encore. Symbol of Honour was in chase all the way from the start and finally lost out the second position to Jaden Gil in the closing stages. Cheyenne finished fourth.

Anupam Sharma trained Mukhtar (Duja-Athlone) wrapped up the day’s last race, the Loyal Prince Plate. The favourite Star Engagement and Mukhtar rushed to the front at start and disputed the lead all the way till the last furlong. From there on Mukhtar travelled the better under Nilesh Rawal and forged to take charge and win. Star Engagement finished second and almost five horses went past the winning post for the minor places but it was Chayanandan and Devil’s Advocate which finished third and fourth respectively.
