London Bridge (Mike Smith Up), winner of The Breeders' Cup Marathon (Gr.2)

London Bridge by Indian Ridge displayed stamina in abundance while beating his rivals in the grueling 1 mile 6 furlongs G2 Breeders’ Cup Marathon at Santa Anita, to be the first New York Bred horse to win a Breeders’ Cup race. Trained by Jo Hughes the 3 year old was ridden by leading US jockey Mike Smith.

Sent in at 8-1 London Bridge raced in midfield for most part of the race. Nearing the final bend London Bridge didn’t look to be in a favourable position but jockey Mike Smith continued to exert pressure on his mount and the 3 year old began to respond well and make headway. Covering ground in the centre of the track, London Bridge flashed past the tiring front runners towards the closing stages, to finally spare a length over the runner-up Blueskiesnrainbows. Worldly ended up third, another neck away.
