Mike Puype trained Mizdirection retained her title in the G1 GEICO Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Jockey Mike Smith who rode Mizdirection to a splendid win was on a high, recording his 20th Breeders’ Cup victory.

Reneesgotzip was off to an electrifying start and led the pack from the beginning. The filly continued to hold the lead as they approached the final furlong. Mizdirection rallied strongly as Mike Smith worked his way and the gray diminished the lead to collar the leader close to the post. The win of Mizdirection was much more comfortable than the ‘neck’ verdict. Tightend Touchdown galloped well to dead-heat with Reneesgotzip for the second place. Unbridled’s Note finished on fourth.

“I broke better this time (compared to last year’s race),” said jockey Mike Smith. “Much more alert, I took advantage of the break and I took the rail right away, which is the best place to be turning right. You get a lot of momentum coming out of that turn going left. Man, she was right there. I was worried I might have been a little too close, but I’m glad I was, because the lead horses weren’t stopping. Reneesgotzip wouldn’t give up” he added.
