Trainer M.Srinivas Reddy and jockey Imran Chisty continued to hold the aces on day two of the Monsoon season at Hyderabad. Both of them scored a treble each while teaming up in two of them. Trainer Anupam Sharma saddled a double and the other highlight of the day was apprentice K.Mukesh Kumar completing riding 20 winners.

On a day dominated by favourites, trainer Anupam Sharma bagged both the divisions of the S.Ramakrishnam Raju Memorial Cup with horses at longer odds. The 7-1 shot Brahmani (Hymn-Jukebox) pulled it off with a long stretched run in the higher division which featured the day’s races at Hyderabad. The 5 year old was racing towards the rear in third last position even as the field turned for home.  Brahmani then started to gain ground from around the field and flashed past to give apprentice K.Mukesh Kumar his twentieth win. Power Drive, who was ahead of the pack on the straight till beaten finished second while Black Bolt ended up third.

Anupam had earlier in the day wrapped up the lower division with another   friendless Azaiba (Rebuttal-Queen Consort). Palm Springs went to the front at start and Azaiba travelled well from outermost draw to head past within the first furlong. The two fought it out throughout the straight and with Imran Chisty driving hard Azaiba won it by quarter of a length. Jockey Suraj Narredu, the rider of Palm Springs lodged an objection against Imran Chisty for cutting across sharply near the 1000 metres causing him to check his mount and that was overruled by the stewards after due deliberations. Melody Queen and Cristiano filled the frame while the favourite Racing Ahead was never in the reckoning.

L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Decathlon (Phoenix Tower-Dancerllon) pulled off a runaway victory in the S.Malakonda Reddy Memorial Cup. The 4 year old raced towards the rear in about tenth position initially and started to improve gradually till approaching the last 600 metres. Rounding the final bend apprentice Akshay Kumar hurried up with Decathlon to get behind the leaders Shatakshi and Beau Ideal on top of the straight. Decathlon picked up speed when urged inside the last 300 metres and stretched out easily to win by a lengthening margin. Beau Ideal held on to the second place from the fast finishing Over Shadow and Golden Arrow.

Trainer Srinivas Reddy’s winners came through Olympus, Catherine and Greek Star.  While the first two were short priced favourites – both ridden by Imran Chisty- the last named returned at 7-1. Olympus (Opportunist-Integer) was sent in as a short priced favourite in the Rani Laxmi Bai Plate, a 1000 metres scurry for maiden 3 year old horses. The bay gelding jumped out smartly from draw one and settled easily to track the early leader Fruir Roll Up.  Entering the last 400 metres Olympus moved alongside Fruit Roll Up and surged ahead effortlessly. Golden Storm rallied on to take the second place from Fruit Roll Up.

Catherine (Warrshan-Outtostealthescene) scored a sweat less victory in the Cupid Plate. The filly raced a close third behind Rock Heights and Lips Locking till entering the home. Jockey Imran Chisty brought Catherine from around the leaders and the filly raised a fluent gallop to head past without having to sweat it out. Rock Heights, Lips Locking and Goldie filled the judge’s frame in that order in a close finish.

Greek Star (Sedgefield-Maid of the Mist) which had not won a race in 21 starts after its maiden victory on debut galloped resolutely to down the favourite Staying The Best in the division II of the S.Malakonda Reddy Memorial Cup. Entering the straight for the final 400 metres Bound For Glory was in front with the favourite Staying The Best joining up and looking good. Greek Star In the meanwhile sneaked in through the shortest way and drew clear to surprise the favourite by almost five lengths. Dazzling Prince finished third. San Ramon was a non-starter in the race.

Laxman Singh trained Tejaswini (Princely Heir-I Have A Dream), a winner of four races in a row before finishing last in a Million during the Invitation weekend returned to winning ways with a thumping win in the S. Malakonda Reddy Memorial Cup. Improving well to get behind the leader Fair And Square with two furlongs left in the race, Tejaswini surged clear under Deep Shanker. Flyin Spur just managed to get the better of Fair And Square for the second place.

Camborne (Equitable-Ferrari) from the stables of L.D’Silva was given a confident ride by J.H.Christopher to lift the Aristocracy Cup. Camborne had a slight advantage over Bouncer as they came in for the final run on the straight and the favourite Panachecorn following them about two lengths behind. Christopher started to ride out Camborne and the youngster responded readily to extend the margin. Panachecorn could only manage to beat Bouncer for the second place.

Ananth Vatsalya trained Golden Dash (Danehill Star-Alfa Romeo) who had won only once from 28 starts picked up its second win in the Sunny Blossom Plate, the concluding race of the day. Ponte Veridi, the favourite went to the front early followed closely by Asta La Vista Babe and Golden Dash. The three were almost in a line as they went past the two furlongs pole and Golden Dash, the widest of them traveled the best to wrap it up. Ponte Verdi stayed on second while Enigma snatched the third place from Asta La Vista Babe.
