L.D’Silva trained Camborne (Equitable-Ferrari) slammed the opposition in the Dr.Harish Chandra Memorial Trophy, the main event of the small card of six races on Monday at Hyderabad. The 3 year old bay colt, a winner over a similar scurry just three days ago was sent off at cramped odds in the higher set. Shimmering Eyes was troublesome inside the gates and was withdrawn reducing the field to 8 runners. Shatakshi in her customary fashion went to the front and led the field well into the home stretch. Camborne, in chase all the way was asked to quicken mid-way up the straight by apprentice Akshay Kumar and the youngster shot off to the front readily and extended the lead to 4 ½ lengths. Secret Angel rallied on to finish second while Montauk came from almost the last position to be third ahead of Shatakshi.

Trainer S.A.Shehzad Abbas and jockey A.Imran Khan teamed up to pull off a back to back double through Valerian Steel and Golden Phantom. Valerian Steel (Yeats-Nan Scurry) won the Flowers of the Forest Cup. The 3 year old gelding which had won its only start in winter was taken to Bangalore for summering. The gelding ran there once over seven furlongs but had not made it to the board there. Sent in as the second in demand for the 1400 metres trip the youngster galloped resolutely to pull it off. Flames of Forest called the shots till the top of the straight after which Golden Essence took over. The favourite Rani was ridden out by Suraj Narredu but the filly found the top weight and the under the wet underfoot conditions not to her liking and could only manage a second place. Baashagar was also in contention with the front bunch but the rider slipped out of the saddle and was dislodged inside the last 200 metres. Valerian Steel in the meanwhile gathered momentum and drew away to win by 7 ½ lengths. Golden Essence and Flames of Forest filled the judge’s frame in that order.

Golden Phantom (Steinbeck-Blue Gardenia) who had not raced for the last eight months scored a resounding win in the Nawab Mehdi Jung Bahadur Memorial Cup. Settling easily in second behind Mount Titlis right from the start, Golden Phantom moved alongside approaching the distance post and stretched out with a fluent gallop to register a facile win. Jerrel and Fairy Emperor had a length separating them while finishing second and third respectively. Racing Tycoon was a tame fourth.

M.Sathyanarayana trained Jaden Gil (Rambus-Dark Deed) pulled off an upset in the Thungabhadra Plate. Racing in about fourth position behind Exclusive Lady, Olive and Racing Queen till the last 300 metres, Jaden Gil improved well under apprentice K.Sai Kiran to head to the front in the centre of the track. Olive held on to the second place from the late finishing Handsome Hunk.

Trainer M.Srinivas Reddy schooled Altruist (Gaswar-Speed Mistress) made every post a winning one while winning the opener, the Set Alight Plate. Pour Vous received maximum support for the 1200 metres sprint, sent off as the favourite at 11-10 while Altruist was the second in demand at 4-1. Altruist did well to get to the lead within the first furlong followed closely by Pour Vous and Kohinoor Grace. Approaching the final furlong Pour Vous started to challenge from the outside but came under pressure and faded out without giving much of a fight. Kohinoor Grace was the next to try and make a race of it but also failed to get up as Altruist stretched out well to extend the lead to over four lengths at the finish.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju trained Go For Gold (Rebuttal-Noorain) justified the favouritism in the Maltese Prince Plate, the concluding race of the day. The 4 year old filly maintained an advantage along the fence right from the start and as they came in for the final run, drew clear under apprentice Md Sameeruddin. Lips Locking overcame minor traffic snarls to take the second place from Sonic.
