Trainer S Dominic leading Rock With U (P S Chouhan Up), winner of The Governor's Cup

Bangalore raider Rock With U (Noverre-Noble Excellency) from S.Dominic’s stables shattered the course record over 1200 metres that had remained in the name of celebrated sprinter Oasis Star for almost five years, while winning the Governor’s Cup on the monsoon track at Malakpet. Rock With U stopped the clock at 1 min.11.47 secs., which is 0.79 secs. faster than that of the existing record.

Rock With U was the only out-station contender among the four horses that lined up for the sprint event. Vijay’s Conquer and Black Bolt from Laxman Singh’s yard and Ananth Vatsalya trained ‘veteran’ Kohinoor Wish were the other three. Vijay’s Conquer had won its last start 12 days ago over a sprint and Black Bolt was the horse of the season last winter with 4 wins. The 7 year old Kohinoor Wish is a rare breed who has placed in 40 of its 44 starts. Rock With U with P.S.Chouhan astride was the favourite among them at 10-9 ‘on’.

Vijay’s Conquer led the field followed by Rock With U, Kohinoor Wish and Black Bolt with the field covered in about five lengths. Rock With U moved alongside the leader inside the last two furlongs and with P.S.Chouhan using the stick a couple of times surged past to assume command and spare a good length and three quarters at the wire from Vijay’s Conquer. Black Bolt finished on being third in front of Kohinoor Wish.

Trainer M.Sathyanarayana was the most successful professional on the day with a treble. Jockey Kiran Naidu was on two of them. A.Imran Khan rode a back to back double while P.S.Chouhan had won the opener with ‘money back’ favourite Machiavellianism to complete a brace.

It was a mere formality for to be completed for Machiavellianism (Jazil-Empress Jessie) in the Basalat Jah Memorial Cup for horses in the highest category and the prized procession from L.V.R.Deshmukh’s yard did that to precision. Vocation led the field early followed by Ocean Side, Machiavellianism, Brahmani and Vijaykeerti. They raced in the same order in a single file till the last 500 metres. On the straight Machiavellianism moved ahead smoothly and the ‘money back’ favourite carried the top weight of 63 kilograms painlessly to the winning post under P.S.Chouhan. Brahmani beat the rest to be the runner-up ahead of Ocean Side.

L.D’Silva’s Prince of Arabia (Epicentre-Ice Castle) whose last win was in December 2012 received strong support to be sent off as the favourite at 6-4 in the Byerly Brigade Cup. Jockey A Imran Khan took the 5 year old to the front from the start and was never headed. Flower Drum offered a challenge in the last 250 metres and finding the winner too good faltered out to finish third while Citi Supreme rallied on to be second.

Trainer M.Sathyanarayana’s winners were Exclusive Beauty, Emerald Reef and Red Express. The last two were piloted by Kiran Naidu. Exclusive Beauty (Sharp Attack-Golden Castle) derailed the hopes of the short priced favourite Western Express in the Astronomic Cup. Sprint Legend and Exclusive Beauty disputed the lead till the top of the straight with Western tracking them close behind. Inside the last 300 metres Western Express started to close up with Exclusive Beauty but was under tremendous pressure. Imran Khan was getting vigorous but the bay colt found it hard to collar Exclusive Beauty and lost out by a ‘head’ at the finish.

Sathyanarayana’s second win came with Emerald Reef (Emerald Cat-Shimmering) in the P.G.Reddy Memorial Cup. Emerald Reef, the oldest at 6 years among the ten runners rushed to take the lead at start and made every pole a winning one. The race favourite Dandelion chased the leader till the last 300 metres and fizzled out. Field Commander rallied in late to take the second spot in front of Lips Locking.

Red Express (Sedgefield-Fort Knox) justified the strong support in the higher division of the Sangareddy Plate, the concluding race of the day. Red Express and Flower Roll Up raced together till the last 350 metres. Flower Roll Up faded out approaching the distance post and Golden Storm came in with a challenge inside the last 200 metres. Red Express kept kicking on to stay ahead of Golden Storm and score its maiden win.

Donald Netto schooled C Eleven (Mathematecian-Crown Charter) whose last run was in a Million race during the Invitation Cup weekend, shed her maiden status in the lower division. Off to a good start, the bay filly decided to sit in second when Kohinoor Grace headed to the front. Once they field appeared on the final straight jockey A Imran Khan hurried C Eleven to take charge and kicked on well to keep Happy Guy at bay inside the last 100 metres. Crown Royal on whom a lot of money came towards race time ended up third without giving a fight.
