HOOTENANNY SCORES IN THE JUVENILE TURF

A perfect ride by Frankie Dettori enabled Hootenanny to clinch the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenille Turf at Santa Anita. The young son of Quality Road beat stable companion Luck of The Kitten to provide a one-two to trainer Wesley A Ward.
Royal Ascot winner Hootenanny pulled up early as they headed past the stands for the first time but settled well in third while stable companion Luck of the Kitten set off in front to set a fast pace. Hootenanny was edged left to make his bid three wide as they neared the final turn. Frankie Dettori timed his move to a nicety on the straight and Hootenanny flashed past Luck of the Kitten to wrap it off by three parts of a length. Daddy D T was third 1 ½ lengths adrift.
“It was my first time on him, but I had seen him run in England, so I knew his style,” Frankie Dettori said after pulling out a marvelous victory. “He wasn’t pulling. I got him settled. When I turned him on, I knew I had the race.”
