Divine Park’s Lady Eli romped home in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita. The stylish looking dark bay filly, an overwhelming favourite at 12-5 justified the strong support with a remarkable victory. It was a first Breeders’ Cup success for jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr and a third for trainer Chad C Brown who had won the inaugural running of the Juvenile Fillies Turf with Maram in 2008.

Lady Eli was settled prominently on the inside while Sunset Glow set the ball rolling in front. Approaching the final straight Sunset Glow was still travelling easily in the lead but began to drift out. Ladu Eli who found the gap widening in front headed to take it and raced through in a jiffy to win in a smart timing. Sunset Glow stayed on to finish second while Osaila and Prize Exhibit ended up third and fourth respectively.

“It was really good. I got a perfect trip and can't complain,” commented jockey Ortiz Jr. “My filly broke good and I got a nice spot down inside, and then I broke through the hole when [Sunset Glow] came out. My filly flew right through there. I was patient and waited like the trainer told me and it worked out good for us. It feels great; unbelievable.”

"It's unbelievable," said the winning trainer. "This filly is exceptional and the first time she breezed on the turf we knew she was something special. She showed her turn of foot and I think she's the best two-year-old filly in the country."
