GLITTERING SEASON AHEAD AT MUMBAI

By Mahendra Mallya | 17 Nov 2014 | MUMBAI

Keeping with the trends and enjoying the ‘premier club’ status, the RWITC announced the richest stakes on offer this season. The advertised prize money of around Rs. 24 crores, shows a sharp increase this year, which after adding performance bonus, sweepstakes and the extra payout for divided races sums up to over Rs.30 crores, the highest stakes for a single season, in the country.

With the Club’s commendable acumen in roping in new sponsors and maintaining its regular alliances, this season too will have a sponsored day every Sunday. Several Sundays have the entire day sponsored. In addition to the rich stakes, the bigger days will be promoted as carnivals of leisure, entertainment and grand prizes for patrons, adding to the excitement on the track.

Without doubt, the Indian Derby Weekend (31st January and 1st February 2015) will be the biggest weekend of the season. The UB Group one of the oldest Sponsors of the Mega event is approaching 30 years of continuous sponsorship, a record for any sporting event. The Mc Dowell Signature Indian Derby (Gr1),  will breach the 3.5 crore mark in total stakes, the highest stakes for any individual sporting events in the country, and promoted in a grand fshion by United Spirits and the RWITC.

Complementing the Derby, the Indian Turf Invitation Cup weekend 2015 comes to Mumbai and will be held on 28th February and 1st March 2015. The new Sponsors for the prestigeous race are the OMKAR Realtors and Developers Pvt. Ltd. OMKAR will sponsor the three principal Grade 1 races.

Akin to the Ascot racing events a “Champions Day” has been slated which is promoted by Blue Star Diamonds. Three graded races and two millions and a celebratory race will add up to a thrilling day in racing. The graded races run over varied distances.

On the corporate social responsibility front, the Club will associate with several NGOs both on race days and other events, to contribute to several noble causes.

Keeping up with modern times and technology, new betting terminals that will accept debit cards and two self-vending tote machines are being introduced. If these are successful more such machines will be added.

The Club has introduced a Kids’ Zone at the racecourse. The famous Fit Kid Fun factory will be a cool facet for children on most Sundays with bouncy carts, tattoo artists and a host of other entertainment and amusement options. .

The first day of races unfortunately was cancelled due to unseasonal showers rendering the track not conducive to racing. As a precautionary measure, the authorities felt it would be wiser not to race so as to avoid further damage to the track. So the start may have been delayed, but the thrill and suspense will only get better as the season progresses. Indiarace team wishes everyone the very best for the entire season.
