Trainer Laxman Singh leading Policy Maker (A M Tograllu Up), winner of The Sardar Mohan Singh Bagga Memorial Cup

The in-form Policy Maker (Home Affairs-Admiration) from the stables of Laxman Singh beat Go For Gold en-route to an encore in the Sardar Mohan Singh Bagga Memorial Cup. Dandelion went to the front at start and Policy Maker was quickly in chase. The Even money favourite Policy Maker forged ahead to grab the lead much before the distance post and stretched out to build a good lead. Go For Gold started to come with a big run from behind and the lead started to diminish rapidly towards the closing stages. The favourite ridden by A.M.Tograllu just managed to scrape through by a slender margin. Aventus finished third well ahead of Hidden Power.

It was Time For Fun for trainer K.Satheesh in the Next Move Plate, a 1100 metres dash for 2 years old maiden horses. Satheesh’s youngsters scored a one-two in the race with Time For Fun (Noverre-West With The Wind) winning with a start to finish bid. Wine And Dine chased the stable companion all through the final furlong to be the runner-up while the favourite Kalinda just managed to take the third spot ahead of City Of Wonders.

T.Srinagesh trained Numinous (Opportunist-Habibi) who had found one better in two starts after its maiden win came good to romp home in the higher division of the Northern Dancer Plate. The 4 year old entrusted to jockey David Bruex was sent off as the favourite at 9-4. Showing plenty of speed at start Numinous hit the front and cut the wind easily into the final straight. After passing the distance marker Numinous accelerated in fine fashion to leave the rest behind and score by close to six lengths. Rapidest held on to the second place from Midnight In Paris and Marquise.

Fruit Roll Up (C.P.West-Fabously Bold) from Donald Netto’s yard justified the on-money favouritism in the lower. Racing a handy fourth till the last 500 metres, Fruit Roll Up moved up from the outside to challenge the leaders Sprint Legend and Bouncer inside the last 300 metres and surged ahead without much persuasion. Torremolinos warmed up late from behind to finish second ahead of Sprint Legend. Bouncer ended up fourth.

While Fruit Roll Up stayed up to its top billing, her half sister and stable companion Flower Roll Up failed to do so in the Common Land Plate. Despite her best efforts, the filly got beat by Gentle Chief (Amadeus Wolf-Lady Asheena) who stormed home in the last 100 metres. The win gave trainer K.Satheesh a double for the day. Gentle Chief after a good start had fallen back along the fence and was in about sixth position turning for home. Jockey Aneel brought out the grey to be given an unhindered run from the wide outside and when asked for an effort the gelding came up with big strides to down Flower Roll Up. Flamboyant Star and Jerrell were non-starters in the race.

Trainer D.Netto had earlier in the day saddled Taviz (Echo of Light-In To The Future) to a facile win in the Members Cup. Both the winners of Netto were ridden by Louis Beuzelin. Granadier set off to lead the field and came in first on the home straight. Taviz who was with the front bunch till turning for home improved gradually and moved ahead of Grenadier with a fluent gallop mid-way up the straight and stretched out to win by five lengths. Sonic and Naamdhari finished third and fourth respectively, in a close finish.

Trainer L.D’Silva had winners in both the divisions of the Mountain Lilly Plate. Classic Emerald (Royal Kingdom-All Dancing) who had just one win from 31 starts finally came good in the higher division, the first race of the day. The 5 year old gelding had met one better in its previous two starts and on that indication was supported well at 13-4 for the seven furlongs trip. Racing in mid-field till rounding for home, Classic Emerald appeared quickly behind the leader Gochi on entering the straight and surged ahead with 300 metres left from home. Well Wisher began to give a tough fight but Classic Emerald held on bravely to provide apprentice Praveen Gaddam his first win. Sea Change and Brother Bruce finished third and fourth respectively.

Golden Phoenix (Phoenix Tower-Apertini) pulled off its maiden win in the lower division, the concluding race of the day. The 4 year old went to the lead at start under jockey S.Sreekant and made every post a winning one. The well backed Royal Gold was in chase of Golden Phoenix right from the start but failed to collar the winner and settled for the second place. Golden Hawk and Fresco filled the judge’s frame in that order.
