Trainer J Sharavanan leading Black Dragon (P Uday Kiran Up), winner of The Obligado Trophy (2)

Trainer J.Saravanan sent out two winners including a resounding one by Black Dragon (Home Affairs-Tapioca / Mebajeona Stud) in the Obligado Trophy, the feature event of the seven races card at Mysore. Dare The Don was the first one to go for the trigger on entering the home stretch and the youngster shot clear from the leader Al Dorado. Approaching the final furlong it looked like Dare The Don would have it easy. Black Dragon running in mid-bunch was pulled out to be given a clear run from the outside and the gelding flashed on with big strides to settle the issue inside the last 50 metres. Napolean Dynamite just managed to beat Al Dorado for the third place. The race favourite Ace Princess reared up as the gates opened and the rider was left standing on the frame. A Steward’s enquiry was held into the start of the race and after reviewing the replay and listening to the versions of the starter and the rider concerned, Ace Princess was declared a ‘non-starter’. Grace And Glory was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Saravanan had earlier pulled off a gutsy win on Robinhood Pandey (Mull of Kintyre-Lovely Fantasy / Manjri Stud) over Pepper King in the Prince Regent Plate. Sent off as the first favourite at 9-4, Robinhood Pandey settled well along the rails in third while Dance of a General called the shots with Pepper King in chase. Once on the straight jockey D.Gnaneshwar started to ride out Robinhood Pandey, using the stick strongly and the 6 year old gelding responded to get to the front. Pepper King was always along the inside but lost out by a neck. Concentration improved late to dead-heat with Dance of a General for the third place. Ground Marshall was withdrawn on veterinary grounds after bolting on the way to the gates.

The most striking winner of the day was Country’s Beauty (Roi Maudit-Jazz Dancer / Country Stud) in the Nagamangala Plate. The 4 year old filly from Feroz M Khan’s stables carried a back breaking weight of 62.5 kilograms to its fifth win on the trot. Apprentice S.G.Prasad took Country’s Beauty to the lead from the word ‘go’ and made every post a winning one without exerting any additional pressure. The rest of the field were all flat out and Capri was the best of them. No Doubt and Castle King finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer S.Rakesh continued his day one’s winning run with a double through Indian Hero and Tulip. Indian Hero (Danehill Star-Sacrista / Galloping Acres Stud) emerged victorious in a three way finish after a keen tussle in the H.Krishna Naik Memorial Plate. The top weighted Nuala set out in front with Supreme Strenth alongside. Into the final 300 metres Indian Hero began to gain ground from the outside and Tandav still wider outside. Brigadier not finding room between horses shifted quickly towards the inside. The three started to fight out the last 100 metres and Indian Hero just about managed to stick out its neck in front at the wire. Tandav was second and Brigadier third another neck adrift.

Tulip (Top Class-Dangerous Belle / Mukteshwar Stud) won the Kolar Plate, the last race of the day. After a smart jump Tulip was held back by A Ashhad Asbar to settle in mid-field while half a dozen horses led by stable companion Star Mountain rushed ahead. Passing the distance post Distant Promise challenged Star Mountain and surged ahead but had to settle for the second place when Tulip came charging from the rear. Class Above came in late to get the better of Star Mountain for the third place.

Jockey Ashhad Asbar had started the day on a winning note astride Dinesh Pujar trained Cosmic Touch ( Alnasr Alwasheek-Czarina / Capricon Stud) in the Mysore Plate. Kaguya Himei set out on a start to finish bid and led till mid-way up the straight. Cosmic Touch improved from behind well from behind and surged past easily with the rider Ashhad Asbar not having to do anything extra. Kaguya Himei stayed on in second while Mr. Go rallied on to take the third spot. Perfectionist was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

C.D.Monnappa’s Lincon Continental (Hurricane Centre-Rush / Singh Stud) scored its maiden win in a convincing manner in the Balamuri Plate. Opening as the favourite at a little over ‘Evens’, the price started to move upwards towards race time. Racing in about fifth position till entering the straight while Ophira enjoyed a good lead in front, Lincon Continental came up strongly through horses and raced away with ease. Heavenly Divas came in late to get the better of Ophira for the second place.
