The followers of form ought to have had a profitable day with fancied horses obliging in most races through the eight-race card. Kramer, one of the more fancied runner in the day, galloped to yet another start-to-finish victory with the ever reliable jockey P Trevor guiding the Malesh Narredu trainee home with a fair measure of comfort, although first timer Cambridge covered a lot of ground in the homestretch and finished close behind the winner.

Kramer (Phoenix Tower – Meydana, Manjri Stud) behaved at the gates and jumped out quickly to dart into the lead and had Timeless Deeds alongside, with Wilshire and Rincon on their tails. God’s Own came next with the two Mallya-owned runners, Arashi and Cambridge at the rear end.

Kramer stepped up the pace inside the homestretch and bounded forward leaving it on the rest to chase him down. Neither Wilshire nor Rincon made any impact. God’s Own improved, but only slightly, not enough to even challenge Kramer. Kramer was guilty of shifting out towards the finish, nevertheless had enough momentum built up to win with ease and take home the Jimmy Bharucha Trophy. Cambridge, the last one to turn for home, showed good acceleration and improved positions, from last in the straight, to end just over a length behind the winner.

The Radha Sigtia Trophy had just four runners, but the return on investment was reasonably encouraging with Palatial the first favourite at 23/10 in the betting ring. Palatial (Pivotal – Pink Palace, Bhaktawar Stud) settled last of four with Frosty setting the pace. Frosty lead them all the way into the straight. Sabiq was the first casualty as she failed to match up to the rest. Raees shaped well as he drew alongside Frosty in the early half of the straight and with Palatial still lagging by a couple of lengths, Raees threatened to take the race away. Raees had barely taken over the lead when Palatial charged up from the outside and jockey Sandesh had Palatial picking up speed and finishing with a flourish. Palatial stormed ahead in the final furlong and stretched away to win convincingly from Raees.

Palatial was the only winner for Sandesh who was two behind in the tally at the start of the day with 36 wins to jockey P Trevor’s 38. Trevor, however, pulled away scoring three in the day stretching his lead (41-37) by the end of the day, to be the firm favourite to win the jockeys championship for the season.

Elegant Beauty (Arazan – Entendu, Poonawalla Astonish Stud) trained by Malesh Narredu, had been knocking on the door for a while now, showed out in the straight to notch up her third career win and justified the strong support in the ring.

Vision of Romance darted to the front and galloped away to establish a massive lead, nearly 15 lengths in the early half of the race. However, he could not really drive home the advantage and there seemed to be some issue with the bit or the saddle as the jockey could not ride her out and merely sat tight to ensure safety first.

Uncle Scrooge took over from the leader erly in the straight, but failed to sustain. Elegant Beauty moved from the second last position and arrived with a spirited gallop to take charge with a furlong to go. She stretched ahead to build a handy lead, which did come in handy when Glorious Eyes quickened in the closing stages. Elegant Beauty though, never looked in danger and won easing up.

Trevor also guided the Dallas Todywalla trained Ridgewood Star (Rebuttal – Phoenix, Hazara Stud) to his maiden victory on his eighth start. Settling up in third just behind leaders Paradise and Queen Ria, Ridgewood Star made an aggressive move to grab the lead soon on turning for home. Ridgewood Star shot further ahead and out of reach of his rivals past the distance post to win impressively, drawing away from the field. Adams Beginning ran on to take the second spot, while Arctic Whizz just managed to nose out Hunayn for the place money.

Trainer Altaf Hussain reaped a popular double the first win coming with Spiridon (Arazan – Timely One, Poona Stud) in the hands of jockey Imran Khan. Dolphin led the field homewards but was soon tackled by Spiridon who had made steady progress to be in striking position coming into the straight. Once in the lead, Spiridon quickened well to speed away and remain elusive. He galloped on gamely to score an emphatic victory and looked the winner from the moment he took charge. King of Killen improved towards the end to take the runner up spot, while Sail Past beat Viking for place money.

Altaf next sent out Angel Girl (Ace – Fair Tactics, Poonawalla Stud) who shared the betting trends with Brabourne. Allowance claiming DS Daman in the saddle did a fine job as Angel Girl looked under pressure on turning for home. Brabourne got past Silk Baby to grab the initiative early in the straight. The lack of run perhaps was the reason Brabourne could not capitalize on the advantage. Angel Girl stared to shift out in the straight and Daman had to summon all his skills to gather the filly and go for the kill with the winning post fast approaching. Brabourne fought on hard, but once Daman had Angel Girl on even keel, she switched gears and arrived with a scorching finish to zip past Brabourne and snatch victory close home. Zanzibaar too finished on briskly, but could only beat Brabourne to third.

Apprentice jockey SA Amit has been showing good improvement and pleasing form for the past couple of seasons and yet again delivered over the 12 to 1 shot Super Bolt over more fancied rivals. The Mansoor Shah ward has been in forward form recently and Amit did extremely well to wear down Isinit, who at one stage looked like pulling it off.

Isinit accelerated well to pull away from the rest approaching the distance post. Amit set about in chase with Super Bolt who had to cover two to three lengths in the final furlong. Isinit kicked on and shaped well to make it, when under the persistent urging of Amit, Super Bolt started to inch closer. Super Bolt caught up with Isinit just a couple of strides from the winning post, but drove in the momentum to get the better of Isinit. Deccan King ended close third. Rich N Rare would have done much better had not found himself behind a wall of horses and his jockey looking to be in two minds on more than one occasion in deciding the safer route. Rich N Rare, despite a couple of checks, ended in the huddle amongst the first four.

Some relief for the bookmakers finally came in the concluding event with friendless Triple Threat (Noverre – Thorns of Life, Sohna Stud) causing an upset win. Apprentice jockey M Ayyar galloped away to the front and soon built a handy lead on straightening for home. Ayyar focused ahead and kept egging Triple Threat on. The Mansoor Shah ward put in a spirited run to go clear in the final furlong and sewed up the race then and there. Airlift covered considerable ground in the final furlong to wrest the runner up slot from Kookaburra on the post. Lady In Red ran on to take the fourth.

For the professionals, trainers Malesh Narredu, Mansoor Shah and Altaf Hussain saddled a double each, while jockey P Trevor scored a treble.
