S.S. Attaollahi trained Kangra (Western Aristocrat-Georgina / Nanoli Stud) had an easy going in the first classic of the Mysore season, the Karnataka Racehorse Owners Association Mysore 1000 Guineas (Gr.3). The filly on its finishing fourth in the Kingfisher Derby Bangalore was installed as the overwhelming favourite for the customary mile trip. Jockey Sandesh settled her nicely in fourth while As Time Goes By, Australis and Glittering Gold ran in front. The only other runner Castanea braced the rear. As they turned for home Glittering Gold and Kangra made their move at the same juncture to go ahead. When Sandesh loosened the reins on Kangra she moved smoothly ahead and outclassed the small opposition. Castanea was improving in the last 100 metres to get the better of Glittering Gold for the runner-up berth.

S.Ganapathy trained Turf Magic (Excellent Art-Messalina / Poona Stud) scored yet another impressive victory in the lower division of the Maj. Sardar L. Mahadevaiah Memorial Trophy. The filly led the field in the initial stages and settled in third when Perfect Legacy and Duke Of Clarence decided to move forward. As they turned for home jockey Suraj Narredu had to just guide Turf Magic from the outside and the filly completed the formality without being reminded from the saddle again. Turf Magic looks to be a good type of filly and should pick up some good races in future. Duke Of Clarence stayed on in second while Idealist slipped into third along the rails from Racing Fire.

4 years old bay colt Emperador (Multidimensional-Burooq / Usha Stud) caused a flutter while winning the higher division. Emperador had last run during winter and had missed the entire summer season at Bangalore. The favourite Into The Spotlight was the quickest out of the gates and moved towards the inner rails from the outermost draw to lead. Passing the 300 metres board on the straight Into The Spotlight still had a sizable lead and was looking good when Emperador improved position from the rear and came charging down with 100 metres left from the finish to push back the favourite to the second position. Veni Vedi Vici and Areca Cruise finished third and fourth respectively. Jolfa was a non-starter in the race.

Arjun Mangalorkar trained Mystic Music (Ivory Touch-Vedic Chants / Jind Stud) came with a good turn of foot in the final furlong to lift the J.H. Foley Memorial Cup. The 6 years old ridden by S.John raced in about seventh till

approaching the final bend and moved up places to be in contention. On entering the straight Alexandrite was the first to grab the lead followed by Ambitious Reward. John started to ride out Mystic Music and the chestnut colt picked up momentum readily and flashed past Alexandrite in the closing stages of the race. Ambitious Reward stayed on in third followed by Back Of Beyond. Frenemee was a non starter in the race. There was an enquiry into the start of the race and after viewing the replay the Stewards deciden to declare Sagrada as a non-starter.

A lot of money came on Rare And Bold (Mull Of Kintyre-Corfu / Jind Stud) in the concluding race, the division I of the Panchgani Plate and this 5 year old from trainer B. Prithviraj’s stables made every post an winning one over the 1200 metres sprint. Prazsky came with a challenge inside the last 150 metres but could only land into second. Wild Wild Angels warmed up late from the extreme outside to take the third spot ahead of Bazinga. Alvarez was a non-starter in the race.

Sharat Kumar trained Why Should I (Noverre-Almost Perfect / Sohna Stud) made it to the winning post in a close finish in the lower division. Humming Bird was taken to the front at start and the mare went on a start to finish bid. Why Should I raced a close second till turning for home and once on the straight started to move up from the outside. Princeazeem was pulled out to make a bid from the wide outside. Jockey S. John gave a couple of cracks to Why Should I to quicken and the gelding began to drift out of the straight course. John could have changed the whip to the right to arrest the drift but he continued to use it from the left and the 6 years old despite drifting out managed to beat Humming Bird by a neck. Princeazeem finished third ahead of Malkia.

P.C.Tejaswi trained Heidrun (Sussex-Zarzaitine / Badal Stud) won the opener of the day, the Psychic Strength Plate. The speedy Oceana set off on a start to finish bid followed closely by Al Dhama. Once into the straight Heidrun started to gain momentum from behind and surged past Oceana without much fuss. Sancy and Durer finished third and fourth respectively.
