Vancouver & Asteria declare a dead-heat in the Scintillating Plate

D.Netto trained Vancouver (Mr Mellon-Watch) and L.D’Silva’s filly Asteria (Green Coast-Alero) were inseparable as they flashed past the winning post in the Scintillating Plate and the judge had to declare a dead-heat between them. While Asteria was the second in demand at 9-2, Vancouver was a longshot at 15-1. The favourite La Romance showed plenty of early speed over the 1100 metres dash and brought the field into view on the straight. Approaching the last furlong Asteria moved strongly between horses and was up with a challenge. Vancouver also improved rapidly from the outside to be in the fight. As the winning post neared La Romance weakened and the other two flashed past the post together. The magic eye could not separate the two fillys and a dead-heat was declared for the first place. Scooby Dooby Doo charged in late to be a close third ahead of La Romance.

On a day dominated by lesser fancied horses, trainers Laxman Singh and K.Satheesh saddled a double each. Laxman Singh sent out winners in both the ‘Cup’ races of the day, the Mystical Cup and the Classic Style Cup. In a close three horses finish Apache Gal (Declaration Of War-Minivet) made it in the Mystical Cup. White Gold after tracking the leader Dolce till into the straight had taken charge and was being ridden out to maintain the lead. Apache Gal looked a bit sluggish in the centre but the 5 year old mare picked up speed when challenged by Pretty Star from the outside and stuck its neck in front at the finish line. White Gold was third in the same picture frame. Agusta Bombshell filled the frame.

Vijay’s Empire (Princely Heir-Royal Tartan) scored an encore in the Classic Style Cup. The filly moved from the outermost draw in the 14 horse field to settle in second behind Silver Dollar. As they came into the last 300 metres Vijay’s Empire started to get closer to Silver Dollar and sped past with 100 metres left. Ice Crystal improved well towards the closing stages but had to settle for the second place. Silver Dollar finished third followed by Ta Ta.

Trainer Satheesh’s double came through Own Battle and Take A Bow. Own Battle (Mull Of Kintyre-Darla) was ridden hard by B.Dileep to lift the Forest Treasure Plate. The bay colt raced in about fifth till entering the straight and with a sustained gallop took charge from the weakening leader Vallee Peaks. Flowersfromabrook slipped in through the shortest way and flashed on late but fell short by half a length. Sher Afgan and Withrosemakeup finished third and fourth respectively, in a close finish.

Take A Bow (Strategic Prince-Queen Of Palms) that was a maiden from a dozen starts came good to strike in the P.Antony Memorial Plate. The race favourite Vallee Bloomer had charged ahead on entering the straight and was going for it when Take A Bow picked up momentum from outside and drew clear by over five lengths. Dione and Dawning Hope finished third and fourth respectively.

Anupam Sharma trained Exclusive Striker (Rebuttal-My Mood / Hazara Stud) was another one to score a maiden win in its 13th attempt. The young filly raced a close fourth till turning for home and as they moved into the last 400 metres, surged ahead to take charge from Citi Colors and kicked on easily. San Vinto managed to beat Citi Colors for the second place. The Man In Black completed the frame.
