By Madhukar Bhagawan | 08 Jan 2018 | HYDERABAD

Mr Vijay Kumar Gupta & trainer Laxman Singh leading Realmsoffantasy (David Allan Up), winner of The Byerly Turk Million (Gr.3)

Laxman Singh trained Realmsoffantasy (Excellent Art-Glorious Fantasy / Poona Stud) shrugged off the challenge of Catalonia to lift the prestigious Byerly Turk Million (Gr.3) at Hyderabad. The chestnut filly having won impressively on debut was installed as on-money favourite with David Allan to guide her fortunes for the sprint event. Dunkirk set off in the lead with Realmsoffantasy in chase right from the start. As they turned for home Catalonia took the first initiative and slipped into the lead through the shortest way. David Allan got the favourite to make a bid from the outside and timing his move to a nicety, got the better of Catalonia by a neck at the finish. Dunkirk stayed on in third followed by Miss Lily.

Trainer Laxman Singh had a profitable day with a treble. His 5 years old Naazaan won in the highest class and youngster Excellent Hope made a winning debut in the maidens’ race. Naazaan (Whatsthescript-Quiet Lane) scored an encore in the Sri A.S. Krishna Memorial Cup. Mr Baahubali set off in front from the start over the mile trip and opened a big lead. Naazaan was settled in second by Kuldeep Singh followed by the rest. Inside the last 300 metres Naazaan creeped up to the leader and surged ahead without much fuss. The race favourite Like Wise could only finish third while Aika Aika Aika completed the frame.

Excellent Hope (Excellent Art-Freefall / Poona Stud) made a smashing debut in the division II of the Haridwar Plate. Racing a handy fourth till well into the home stretch behind Baywatch Babe, Nimble Mind and Air Salute, Excellent Hope was nursed well by David Allan and the filly moved smoothly to get past the front runners and score. Tokyo Jam came up late from the inside to be the runner-up berth followed by Nimble Mind and Once More.

David Allan steered Proclamation (Excellent Art-Awarding) to an impressive win in the higher division of the race. The chestnut filly from trainer L.V.R.Deshmukh’s stables was installed as the favourite on debut and David Allan was flawless in guiding her to victory. Finding a rush for the early lead, Proclamation was settled in about fifth with Jazz It Up on a start to finish bud. Passing the last 300 metres Proclamation was set alight from the outside and the filly showed good turn of foot to storm ahead and win easily even as Alta Vita charged in late to beat Jazz It Up for the second place.

Jockey Suraj Narredu kept his tally ticking with a double through Rutilant and Air Strike, both of them trained by Arjun Anne. Air Strike (Burden Of Proof-Crown Princess / Kunigal Stud) justified the favouritism in the C. Sathyanarayana Memorial Plate. Euro Zone in his usual style went to the front and called the shots over the 2000 metres trip. Dahlois ran in second followed by Air Strika and the remaining five runners. The order remained almost the same till turning for home and once on the straight Suraj was quick to go for the gap along the rails and slipped into the lead. Air Strike strode out clear of Euro Zone till the finish. Treasure Striker finished third followed by Dahlois.

Rutilant (Dean’s Kitten-Almanzora Bay) decimated the opposition in the opening event of the day, the division II of the Galactica Plate. The 4 years old chestnut colt, a short priced favourite for the mile trip raced in fifth till into the straight and when Suraj let him go, stretched out effortlessly to beat the pack by a widening margin. It was a close finish for the minor places with Sunday Carnival edging out Platinum Claasz and News O’Star. Money Time and Icing On The Cake were withdrawn near the starting gates.

R.H. Sequeira trained You Can I Can (Oiseau De Feu-Candela) opened its account in the division I of the race. The gelding raced in about fifth till entering the straight and Suraj had to work a bit to get him to raise a gallop and once he picked up the momentum there was no stopping. Escobar rallied on in second with Symbol Of Star’s and San Vinto finishing third and fourth respectively.

M. Sathyanarayana trained Old Faithful (Oath-Rainbow Fog) won the concluding race of the day, the Wishful Thinking Plate. Racing handily with the front bunch of runners, Old Faithful surged ahead with a furlong left and drew clear. In a close finish for the minors Boca Grande nosed out Mean Machine for the runner-up berth. Tough Sussex completed the frame.
