BREEZEOFTHESOUTH BLOWS THE FIELD AWAY IN FEATURE

R.H.Sequeira trained Breezeofthesouth (Dancing Forever-Queen Of Normandy) returned to winning ways in the T. Chandrasekhar Reddy Memorial Plate, a 1400 metres race for horses in the highest class. Mr Baahubali who likes to set his own pace rushed to the front once again and broke clear from the pack. Breezeofthesouth was held in second by Akshay Kumar and the rest of them many lengths behind. As they turned for home the leader was left with little gas in the tank and Akshay had no problems in surging ahead with Breezeofthesouth and the 5 year old kicked on to keep at bay the late bid of Ashwa Raftar. Kolors and Morning Miracle filled up the frame in that order.  Jockey Akshay Kumar who is riding with great aplomb this season was astride a double again.

Arjun Anne trained Gunner (Sharp Attack-Golden Shadow) scored a stunning upset in the Mayor’s Cup. The chestnut colt a winner in the lower class in the previous run was neglected in the betting, sent out at 20-1. Gunner raced in about seventh close to the rails till turning for home. Once on the straight Supremo grabbed the lead and Gunner still behind was pulled out by Kuldeep Singh to stake claim from the wide outside. Inside the final furlong Gunner came with a flash and got the better of Supremo in the shadow of the winning post. Ahwa Ashoka also joined the two in the same picture frame to be third. Bayrd completed the frame.

Trainer Arjun Anne tasted success in the next, saddling Yanga (Mull Of Kintyre-Michele Matieci) to a maiden win in the division II of the Sweet Girl Plate. The filly raced a handy third behind General Salute and Golden Hope till into the home stretch and took charge passing the 300 metres board and drew clear of the rest. News O’Star rallied on in second followed by Jumeira Express and Aerofoil.

In the higher division N. Ravinder Singh trained Turf Legend (Sedgefield-Red Fairy / Jai Govind Stud) pulled off an upset, beating the short priced favourite Star Gazer. The favourite had got to the front passing the 1000 metres board and came into the straight with a good lead of over four lengths. Star Gazer looked good till approaching the distance post but Turf Legend who made way between horses and with a terrific turn of foot flashed past to pull it off. Shivalik Arrow and Wannawin finished third and fourth respectively.

D.Netto trained Gorgeous Lady (Declaration Of War-Gaslight) scored an encore in the division I of the Salarjung Plate. The 5 year old mare was held on a tight grip in about fourth by Deepak Singh and when he loosened the reins on the straight, she accelerated in tremendous fashion to head past the leader Khan Sahib. While Gorgeous Lady was passed the winning post with ease, Chinese Thought, Aston Doulton and Ikigai followed in that order in a close finish.

In the lower division L.D’Silva trained Golden Image (Green Coast-Above The Line), a 12-1 shot wrapped up the proceedings. As the race got to a boil in the straight Shakesphere surged past Prime Time and was going for it. Golden Image started to cover ground from behind but was also tending to lug in. Apprentice A.A. Vikrant did well to get the colt on even keel and successfully landed the spoils. Prime Time stayed on in third followed by Gayle Force.

Faiyaz Shaikh trained Glorious Grey (Charmo-Ashwa Prabha) that went into the race as a maiden came good to open her account in the division II of the Next Move Plate. Jockey Deepak Singh on Glorious Grey looked to be trapped for a clear passage in the early stages and sat behind in about sixth. Making up ground gradually in the straight the grey filly charged down in the last 150 metres and stretched clear from Cannon Fury. Conroy and Gaandeevan filled the frame in that order in a photo finish.

Jockey Akshay Kumar rode S.A. Shehzad Abbas trained Man Of The Series (Sylvanite-Pyjama Samba) to a popular victory in the higher division. Man Of The Series that had come down by a class was installed as the ‘Even’ money favourite for the 1200 metres race.The rider waited patiently in about fourth till entering the straight. He found an inviting gap along the rails and slipped in through that to take charge. New Hope came with a fast gallop towards the finish but Man Of The Series and Akshay Kumar were safely home by half a lengths. Touch Of Gold finished third ahead of Dawning Hope.
