MISHKA’S PRIDE DELIVERS ON PREVIOUS RUN PROMISE

By Mahendra Mallya | 31 Mar 2019 | MUMBAI

Trainer Dallas Todywalla leading Mishka's Pride (A Sandesh Up), winner of The J D & Peggy Banatwalla Trophy

Imtiaz Sait’s ward Mishka’s Pride (Total Gallery – Tsesebee, Mebajeona Stud) had shown a lot of promise while running second to Kariega Forbes Fillies’ and showed considerable improvement to score a maiden win.

Mishka’s Pride was up with the front running Powerful Star and shot ahead soon on turning for home. Astounding Star showed a bit of spark momentarily while chasing Mishka’s Pride, but could not really pose a real threat. Mishka’s Pride galloped on gamely to steer clear in the final furlong to make it easily. Astounding Star was labouring all the way and even lost out the runner up slot to the faster finishing Square the Circle.

Cormorant (Phoenix Tower – Give me Five, Manjri Stud) rolled out another winning performance to provide an encore. He was far more easy-striding this time and raced closer to the rear for most of the seven furlong race. He made steady progress around the turn and slipped in through the inner railings to launch his finish. Dance the Dream tried to take the early advantage in the homestretch but he had barely taken over when Cormorant, with jockey P Trevor in the saddle, came along with a rush. The Faisal Abbas trainee simply cruised ahead and won with authority. Dance the Dream ended a tame second. Who’syourdaddy was detached last until the turn and he did commendably well to rally, had to switch lanes yet finished in the money having to cover a lot of ground in the homestretch.

His Master’s Vice (Rebuttal – La Creame, Hazara Stud) cashed in on the lacklustre performance by favourite Romanesque and posted his first win on his 21st start. Romanesque let a large following down. Racing in the third position, Romanesque went for the lead soon on turning for home but had no answer when His Master’s Vice cruised past soon after. Once into the lead, His Master’s Vice stepped up the pace readily to draw away from Romanesque leaving nothing to chance. His Master’s Vice won comfortably from Romanesque, while Wizard of Odds pegged back Power of Thor for the third spot.

Antarctica (Chevalier – Wild Anzille, Ruia Stud) was another one to record a maiden win and this was her fifth outing. Antarctica was way behind until the turn and there was a bunch of horses finishing on when Antarctica was noticed. Faberge led them in with Bohemian alongside, Teodor Monte, Cristo Boss and Cray Cray – they were all scrambling to outdo one another when Antarctica arrived with a sizzling run.  Jockey Bhawani Singh went past them with tearing hurry to leave the rest panting. Within spilt-seconds Antarctica had swept past them and drawn away to post a handsome four-and-half lengths victory, bringing up her maiden win in style and promising to add to it at the next available opportunity. She floored them all with disdain showing a good turn of foot and that should see her achieve more success in future. Romantic Eyes, Cristo Boss and Teodor Monte finished in close order for the minor slots.

Cabellero (Dean’s Kitten – Dona Victoria, Sohna Stud) dished out a neat start to finish performance while scoring his maiden victory on his third start. He was off with a flash and kept a safe distance from Bonafide until the turn. Once in the homestretch, Cabellero, ridden by apprentice jockey Zeeshan and trained by Mansoor Shah, kicked on relentlessly all the way, thwarting the challengers comfortably. Bonafide could not keep up with the pace and ran on shoddily. Orion’s Belt was the only one who drew a bit closer to the winner. Grand Sinatra made up ground in the final furlong to beat Julio Cesaro for the third place.

Night Hunt (Net Whizz – A La Votre, Hazara Stud) was the fourth horse to post a maiden win and he too did so with a measure of comfort. He picked up speed soon on turning for home and dashed past early leader Westeros past the 400m mark and them stretched out nicely to seal the race long way from home. Royal Ace, who was in second, failed to sustain and fell back sooner than expected. Ebony made quick headway but was not fast enough to make any impact on the Vishal Gaikwad ward. Make it Shine improved positions to finish in the money.

For the professionals, jockeys P Trevor and A Sandesh recorded a double each.
