YASH NARREDU RECORDS GRAND TREBLE

By Ikram Khan | 11 Mar 2022 | CHENNAI

Dr Anil Kumar leading Kay Star (Nikhil Naidu Up), winner of The G Narasimhan Memorial Trophy

After enjoying a good run in the Invitation week-end, the followers of form again had the better of exchanges, four firm favourites, including Kay Star, winner of the G Narasimhan Memorial Trophy, the plum event and one well supported second choice Sonic Dash, nailing bold colours to the mast in the competitive eight-event card on Friday.

Kay Star on the strength of his impressive second behind King Louis over a distance of seven furlongs was fancied most in the sprint event. The goodtype of youngster after his three earlier efforts was raring to go and looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring. Nikhil Naidu settled the winner nice and easy all through the six furlong journey and the moment he reminded the public choice of the task ahead, the Anil Kumar schooled youngster readily produced a winning gallop to enter the winners' circle. Single Malt finished a game second ahead of Star Lap, who is certain to stake a claim to the winners podium in the weeks ahead. Now that Kay Star owned by Cheriyan Abraham has shed his maiden status, it will pay to follow him again when next saddled.

In the principal added attraction, the Army Cup run over a distance of 2000 metres, Divina from the stables of Sebastian confidently piloted by Brisson produced an astounding gallop in the straight to peg back the gallant effort of Mr Kool. The winner who graced the wrong end of the field for most part of the trip produced his best when it mattered the most to overhaul the leader Mr Kool who was unlucky not to have gained the day, his jockey losing his stirrup when the race came on a boil and this proved costly for Mr.Kool at end. Mr.Kool on the strength of this performance is too good to miss out when saddled next. Eagle Prince finished third ahead of the overwhelming favourite Wellington who appears to have gone sour after his listless effort in his last essay on the Invitation Cup eve,. Wellington in fact had won from his two earlier starts and was in line for a hat-trick in the event the Bengaluru challenger Lord Frankel from the stables of Padmanabhan won without raising a sweat.

The favourite Beejay from Adhirajsingh Jodha's yard justified his top billing in the upper division of the Air Force Cup won over a sprint. Leading pro Chotu Singh Jodha who produced an exemplary effort on Juliette in the Invitation Cup produced a copybook race on the strongly fancied winner. The lesser fancied Lady Royal gained the runner-up berth ahead of Angel Heart, while  Catelyn completed the frame. In the lower division of the event the speedy Lady Solitaire from Robert Foley's yard showed a clean pair of heels to her 11 rivals making every post a winning one in the hands of jockey Nakhat Singh. The favourite Diamond And Pearls from Sebastian's yard finished on purposefully at end but the belated effort was just not good enough to stop the `Lady' motoring down to stand tall at the podium. Wakanda surprised most finishing third ahead of Lordship and is one for the note book.

The second in demand at the betting ring, Sonic Dash from leading pro Deepesh Narredu's yard produced a heartwarming effort in the hands of Yash Narredu to come out trumps in the Navy Cup run over a distance of seven furlongs, The winner while providing Yash an arm-chair ride to success sent out a strong message that he is now on top of his game and is certain to provide an encore. The favourite Sweet Fragrance, who found Sonic Dash too hot to handle finished second ahead of Royal Pearl.

Yash and Deepesh earlier combined effectively to win the lower division of the OTA Cup on the favourite Spectacle who made a smashing debut. The winner tracked arch rival Current View for most part of the 1000M dash before Yash setalight Spectacle approaching the distance post and it was all over bar the shouting, the public choice romping home nice and easy at the end. Current View held on to finish second ahead of Ribolla Gialla. The upper division of the event was claimed by Suresh schooled Be Calm partnered by Yash who stole the limelight recording a grand treble. Angavai from Mandanna's yard won the event beating Be Calm by the shortest of margins before losing out in the stewards room following a successful protest lodged by Yash Narredu against Mukesh Kumar guiding the fortunes of Angavai for shifting out and taking his ground in the straight. The protest was rightly upheld to the delight of the punters who backed Be Calm to the exclusion of her 10 rivals.

The Sebastian-trained Valeska and Queen Of Fame from the stables of M M Uthaiah were the two other winners. The former came out tops in a thriller to take the Police Cup home, while the ten to one shot Queen Of Fame piloted by Ramandeep Bal proved too good in the concluding event run over nine furlongs.
