Last outing-winner Hero's Dominance put in a brilliant finishing effort to get up on the last stride, and lift the BOL Publication Cup, the feature event in Tuesday's race card at Mysore. The only three year-old in a field of eleven, San Siro, was expected to have it easy, and was accordingly installed as a clear favourite to win this race. A late rush of support for Callidora saw the odds against this filly shorten significantly. The connections of Callidora were hopeful of an improved performance from her, since she had run a close third in her last start. Hero's Dominance was an obvious third favourite, but the penalty he had received for his earlier win decreased his chances. The beginning of the race saw Callidora lose all her chances at the gates, when she was a bit sluggish in taking off at the start. San Siro and Mr Bureaucrat were the frontrunners till the bend, before the former took off and opened a comfortable lead over the rest of the runners. Hero's Dominance, who was improving all the time, started to gain ground on San Siro and after engaging her in a brief duel down the straight, put his neck in front at the all-important end. Mr Bureaucrat was a fair third, ahead of a fast-finishing Callidora. Jockey Melvyn rode a bad race on Callidora, and she should not be neglected when she faces similar opposition in her future engagements. San Siro was the fifth straight favourite to bite the dust in the day's card. Trainer Monappa saddled the hot favourite Opera Princess in the upper division of a sprint race for horses in Class B. This mare had won fluently in her last start, and was well handicapped in this race. The presence of Vinod Shinde in the saddle, and his allowance of 2 kgs, made her a banker for most racegoers. She was backed down to odds-on favouritism. Opera Princess ran a very peculiar race as she toiled at the rear end of the field and did not raise a gallop at any stage of the race. She finished last but one in an eight horse field, and was immediately impounded and kept under observation by the officials of the Mysore Race Club. The race was won by Ametrine, who came from the rear to beat Record Time and Dontforgetmaumann in a blanket finish. Aaja Aaja came with a good run from the tail end of the field to finish an easy fourth, and should find himself in the winners’ enclosure before the end of this season. The lower Division of this race was won by the speedy Prettyyashyashvini. The fancied Sign Of Luck finished a tame second. Another Monappa-trainee Always For You was a hot order in a sprint race for maiden three year-olds. The positive switch in the saddle, with Gnaneshwar replacing the last outing jockey Gopal Rao, raised the hopes of the punters, and they supported him strongly. Fit For Fray did the usual front-running and seemed to be going well as they entered the home stretch. Hi Hennessy was a close second while Always For You seemed to be under pressure in third spot. The race took an interesting turn as Fit For Fray started to drift out under pressure, and veered out alarmingly. Chandrasekhar switched Hi Hennessy towards the inner rails, and gave her a couple of cracks before pipping Fit For Fray at the post. The latter would have returned an easy winner, but for this mishap, and lives to fight another day. Always For You found the trip a trifle short and showed that he would be better suited over 1,400 metres. Three year-old Kar O Bar was the next one to take a lot of money down the drain. This well supported runner led till the turn, and packed up thereafter to finally finish down the field. Khoka and Classic Armour were no match for the eventual winner, Sterling Speed, who produced tremendous acceleration and ran away from them. It is becoming increasingly difficult for three year-olds to win in open Class at this centre. There was some solace for the racegoers as Vinod Shinde steered the hugely fancied Enchanting Girl to an easy victory in the sixth race of the day. She was the only favourite to win on Tuesday. Enchanting Girl was kept a handy fourth behind Ansonia, Laguna Blue and Mint Royal, before she quickened in the last furlong and went away from Danger Diabolic. The latter put up a gutsy performance by carrying a back breaking 65 kgs while finishing an impressive second. Cheetah finished a late third. There was a strong drizzle during the running of this race, which got heavier with every passing moment. It really poured thereafter, and the Stewards of the Club took a quick decision to cancel the last two races of the eight event card.
