Shubh Shubh Seems Unstoppable, Proves His Supremacy

Shbh Shubh proved his supremacy while bagging the Madras Race Club Cup at the Delhi races on Saturday. Trainer Ishwar Singh Parmar and his stable jockey Devraj Singh Rathore (DS Rathore) had a field day by notching up a treble respectively. The Five-year-old Shubh Shubh has been a rage in the local turf and running over a suitable distance (1,200m) on this occasion made his task easy. He made a quick dash from his block but was unable to beat the initial speed of Gin And Tonic who was running after a long lay off. But then, within a distance, he found himself heading the field for a comfortable victory.

The way the Ishwar-saddled and Rathore-ridden horse travelled, people were expecting him to break the three-year-old record of Degas (1 m 10.91seconds). However, he was slow at the post by decimal of 29 seconds. The next venture of the son of Hymn and Miss Discreet would definitely be the sprinters Trophy to be held next month. Ashwa Pratap, who had a lethargic start, did all to occupy the runner-up berth against the late-finishing owner-mate Middle Man. Mumbaikar Jockey Devraj, who is in great form, displayed a brilliant piece of riding on Amity in the Chennai Plate. An initial lazy galloper picked up speed only after passing the half-way mark of the seven furlongs. Cutting through the fence at the fifth place, the daughter of Hymn and Eternal Beauty switched onto outer with still 300mts left from the wire. She responded marvellously to dominate the last furlong.

Yourethetouch was impressive, finishing second behind her. Doon Boy, who ran fifth, should spring a surprise. Ashwa Pallvi looked to be in a hurry after leading the way from the top of the final curve and that marred her chances to be fourth. Yet another fine display in the saddle by Devraj enabled Sonic Boom to register an emphatic victory in the Grand Stand Plate which was earmarked for the class three horses. Coming from the mid-bunch, the son of Placerville and Miss X O Lence sneaked through the fence to lie second behind the leader Ashwa Prabha. Seeing the gelding giving no response on quirt, Devraj gathered the rein to drive him hard and that bore fruit as he slammed the door on the rest before entering into the final furlong.

Hyderabad champion jockey P S Chouhan, who has now become a familiar face at the Delhi turf, once again faltered on his mount Ashwa Prabha by sending her out to guide the way of the field too early like Ashwa Pallvi. Black Partridge, who ran third, should return to the winning enclosure. Zulfiqar Khan's charge Neko (San Francisco – Candela) helped his partner apprentice Aqeed Waheed, the younger son of the late Bangalorean jockey Abdul Waheed, to taste his career's first win and that too at nourishing odds in the day's opener - the upper division of The Ball Room Plate. The favourite Courage Under Fire failed to sustain and played the role of second fiddle. The lower division of the plate saw Belfagour (Duja – Persian Belle), who was rechristened from Hansraj, to shed the maiden status in a start-to-finish bid.

A western India import Destined Prince (Royal Kingdom – Empress Ann) succeeded in ending his winning drought in the concluding event, The Guindy Plate.
